'DWTS' Premiere Recap: Season 17 Kicks Off With One Shock After Another

TV Addict 12

dwts season 17 cast

Ahhhhh! I know I'm not the only one who literally got up off the couch and cheered during the Dancing With the Stars season 17 premiere tonight. OMG. Where the hell have they been hiding these contestants?!? For the first time in I don't know how long, I could not stop grinning from ear to ear as each couple took the ballroom floor.

Usually the first night of DWTS is awkward, uncomfortable, a tad boring, and also kind of embarrassing -- but this cast is seriously on fire.

And could they have kicked things off tonight with anyone hotter than Brandt Daugherty? Um, why have I never heard of this dude before? He's all sorts of sexy as hell and then some. (Mama likey.) And he and Peta Murgatroyd have mad chemistry, so they should be pretty interesting to watch this season.

After Brandt and Peta's performance, I half expected the show to start going downhill fairly quickly -- but then it just kept getting better and surprised the heck out of everyone watching.

How about Corbin Bleu? Yeah, yeah, I know he's a bit on the experienced side, but still -- he and Karina Smirnoff were awesome.

And OMG, Jack Osbourne. He was nothing short of adorable, but he also proved himself to be pretty smooth on his feet -- who knew? (And I totally started to tear up after seeing his mom Sharon crying in the audience.)

Elizabeth Berkley also caught my eye and is one to watch out for this season. Ok, so maybe it was Val Chmerkovskiy who had me glued to the TV, but whatever.

And don't even get me started on Amber Riley. Can that girl move it and shake it or what? I know it's only night one, but if she and Derek Hough keep up this pace, they could easily take the mirror ball trophy.

Of course, they had to save Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi for last, and I gotta say, she totally delivered. She's definitely taking this competition (and her life) seriously, which is so refreshing. I love her. (And Len called her a little "pocket rocket." Poor guy had no idea what he said, and it was awesome.)

Hmm. If I had to pick a favorite tonight though -- I'm gonna have to give my vote to Jack Osbourne. He's too cute to resist.

OMG. I can't wait for next week!

Who is your favorite contestant so far?

Elizabeth and Val, Brant and Peta and Corbin and Karina. Also like Amber and Derek - going to be tough!

I was hoping to hear about Bill Nye in this review as I have fond memories of his Bill Nye the Science Guy tv show, I guess the author only cares about 'reality' stars. Oh wait, science is the ulitimate reality. Our priorities are mixed up!

Or maybe the Author wasn't willing to say anything about Bill Nye because The MAN couldn't DANCE.Bad Posture and out of step, But Hey he got votes so lets get rid of someone who can dance.

There are a few with no dancing experience at all. The Bills to name two. I may have to root for one of them.

Brenda Bowden

Gotta go with Valerie Harper for now for her courage and her stamina.  They were all good.

Toni LoTempio

What a great opening night for DWS..it is going to be an entertaining season..love the new format it moves so much smoother and not as much chit chat.

Valerie Harper's votes are for sympathy and i know she is doing it cause what she went thru but we must vote for their dancing.

I thought this show was about celebrities who couldn't dance.  Seems like this season there are a lot of contestants who have dance experience.  Not exactly a level playing field.  Routing for Bill Engvall.
