Carson Daly is a busy guy. Not only is he the host of NBC's latest late night show, Last Call, but he is slated to host the upcoming season of The Voice for the fifth season. Carson apparently didn't think he was quite busy enough. He's added a new job to his already-bursting schedule.
It was announced that Carson is set to join the cast of NBC's Today show! Daly's going to be the host of their new "Orange Room," a digital/social segment that's all about interacting with the viewers. He's guest-hosted on the show before, including hilarious stints opposite Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. This new role puts him squarely in the first two hours of the show, with folks like Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie. They are fans of Daly at Today, but we wonder how one host is taking this news.
Matt Lauer has been in the press a lot over the past year. When Ann Curry left the show, Lauer took a lot of the heat over her exit. Most of the viewers held Lauer to blame for Curry's departure. It was a traumatic time for the guy, and he's still talking about it.
At the height of the Ann Curry Crisis (also an excellent band name), Lauer threatened to walk out on the show once and for all. Is the addition of Daly supposed to be part of Lauer's transition out? Even if this isn't the case, he's still got to feel like he's being replaced with this newer, younger guy joining the show.
Do you think Carson joining Today means that Matt Lauer is on his way out?
