Mark GatissYou know that Game of Thrones season 4 is hugely, highly, freakishly anticipated when a guy who was cast weeks ago and whose role was recently revealed makes headlines. Mark Gatiss, best known for his work in Sherlock, was cast back in July but no one knew for which role (well, obviously, besides the people involved with the show). Such a tease on HBO's part, and of course the Internet went wild with speculation.

Now it's being reported that Gatiss's role is officially going to be Tycho Nestoris. It was even revealed on the actor's CV. Another season 4 mystery solved! Not like there are that many since HBO has been so tight-lipped about what's to come, but still. Any season 4 news is welcome news.

So who exactly is this Tycho Nestoris and what part will he have to play in season 4? BOOK SPOILERS ahead. Fair warning!

Tycho Nestoris works for the Iron Bank of Braavos. He is tall and skinny with very long legs and a thin face. His beard is very skinny too and stops right above his waist. He rocks a three-tiered purple felt hat and a purple robe. Gatiss looks like he could definitely pull off this crazy look.

He first appears in A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book, people, when he is sent to the Wall to negotiate a payment with Stannis Baratheon. Seems the Iron Throne owes the bank some money. Nestoris makes a deal with Jon Snow so that the Night's Watch will have food for the winter -- Stannis is gone, so Jon provides him with instructions on how to find him.

Nestoris encounters numerous familiar faces for book readers on his way to meet Stannis, namely Theon Greyjoy, who we saw mercilessly tortured in season 3, and Jeyne Poole, who is forced to eventually marry Ramsay Bolton. But since season 4 has a lot to cover, it will be interesting to see how the show deals with Nestoris's inclusion. He does eventually find Stannis in the sixth book and they negotiate a deal.

Well, of course only the script writers know when and how Nestoris will show up (season 4 certainly has a lot to get through in the North, especially with the leadership shakeup on the Wall!), but at least we figured out who Mark is playing for sure. One thing that we do know in terms of all this casting news: Winter is coming, and that means we're that much closer to spring 2014, when season 4 finally premieres!

Are you surprised they'll introduce Nestoris in season 4 even though his first appearance was in book 5?
