'Real Housewives of Orange County' Reunion Part 3 Recap: Vicki Gunvalson Won't Stop Defending Brooks Ayers

Brooks Ayers and Vicki GunvalsonIn a word, tonight's third and final part of The Real Housewives of Orange County Reunion was painful. The confrontation between Brooks Ayers, Vicki Gunvaslon, and her daughter, Briana Wolfsmith-Culberson, went beyond the usual cat fights and accusations to a raw, emotional level that almost felt wrong to watch.

Briana so clearly comes from a place of love for her mother that there's absolutely no reason to doubt her allegations against Brooks. And what disgusting allegations they were. She said he not only told her husband that he needed to beat her to keep her in line, but also, disgustingly, talked to her about his penis size, calling himself "Girth Brooks."

And that's only part of it. She says there are plenty more examples of him disrespecting her, her mother, and their family. So many, in fact, that she keeps a list in her wallet. While Vicki denied that he had ever gotten physical with her, Briana seemed to strongly imply otherwise.

Slimy as ever, Brooks tried to win everyone over with what he (mistakenly) believes to be his charm. He apologized and tried to act all humble, but it was just condescending and transparent, and he still couldn't seem to stick to the truth. You gotta hand it to Briana though -- she's one tough cookie. She didn't give him an ounce of sympathy and fought him on every point without backing down. Good for her.

When she tore into him for telling Ryan that he should hit her, she shot at him, "Did you know I was abused as a child?" It didn't seem to faze him much, but it was so intense, it sent Lydia McLaughlin running from the stage.

At one point, Vicki got up to leave. "Guess what, Vicki's done with the show!" she said. Her reason wasn't because it was all too painful to hear, it was because she didn't want Brooks to be bashed. She repeatedly defended him throughout the night, and it seems that no matter what anyone says, she just won't believe that he's the snake everyone else sees. She was worried about him being embarrassed. "He can't fix the past," she said.

When Briana brought up text messages she'd seen from Brooks calling Vicki fat and ugly, her response was just sad. Rather than believe her daughter and get pissed at Brooks, Vicki instead turned to him and asked, "You don't think I'm fat do you?" And then to everyone else, "He thinks I'm beautiful!"

It was so hard to watch an otherwise strong and successful woman be so blinded by love or the fear of being alone or whatever it is that she would act like this. For Briana, it's heartbreaking.

It all ended with Brooks making what I'm sure he thought was a gallant exit, saying he loved her enough to let her go. We would say good riddance, but it didn't feel like a final farewell at all, and I highly doubt it's going to be the last we see of Brooks and Vicki together. She's simply not over him and not willing to let go. Recent reports indicate they're still together too. So knowing that combined with everything we saw tonight made it one of the most depressing reunions ever.

I don't know what it's going to finally take to make Vicki quit Brooks. We can only hope that at some point she'll wake up and see what everyone else has seen all along.

What did you think of part three of the reunion? What do you think it will take for Vicki to finally quit Brooks?

Disagree that it was so 'obvious' that Briana came from a place of love: The ONLY person who didn't offer comfort to Vicki when she was crying was her daughter. Briana just sat stone faced, like a pinched up bitch, watching....holier than thou I despite her rude and abusive husband. Just ewww to the whole thing. Going to bathe my eyes now.

The cycle of abuse is heartbreaking and frustrating: In Vicki's case, I do not for one second doubt that Brooks is abusive, be it emotional or physical. Lies and belittling are to fists what a slow-cooker is to a microwave: Something is cooked in the end, be it a lengthy or immediate process. Briana has been right about all of this for years, and I still admire how she keeps fighting on behalf of her mother. Vicki? My gut tells me that her shame is what keeps her in the craziness with Brooks: She may feel as if she has spun so far out of control, that she can't possibly admit that she was mistaken all along. I think that her definition of commitment and loyalty is completely screwed up; she may be punishing herself for her own possible past transgression with fidelity.

Both Vicki and her daughter Briana make up excuses for their men. Both are controlling and verbally abusive.

Vicki is a horrible human being. She's a terrible mother, she's a terrible friend. I'd love to know what Brooks is holding over her head because she is going to lose her daughter. Abuse is never acceptable & Vicki of all people, should know this.

I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT VICKI, BEING THE OLDEST OF THE SERIES AND VERY CLEARLY NOT IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS THE OTHER LADIES IN BOTH LOOKS AND SHAPE HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY INSECURE. SHE IS OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES AND DESPERATE FOR A MAN'S ATTENTION. I THINK SHE THOUGHT WHEN SHE FINALLY BROKE UP WITH DONN THAT MEN WOULD BE BEATING DOWN HER DOOR AND THAT HAS NOT OR NEVER WILL HAPPEN WITH HER PERSONALITY. I THINK BRIANNA SEES MORE THAN WE EVER WILL AND KNOWS WHAT A FOOL BROOKS IS MAKING OF HER MOTHER

I was really bothered by the way the Briana reacted to Lydia when the incident between Lydia's mother and Ryan was brought up. I agree with Briana about not wanting to bash you husband on national television but he was clearly out of line (and drunk). She has clearly learned from her mother that when you are in a defensive position you need to start name calling and finger pointing. She could have just said, "I don't want to spend my time up here talking about my husband. He regrets his behavior and I'm sorry we made her feel uncomfortable." Maybe he was emotional because he was about to leave for deployment but then maybe they shouldn't have gone to the party.
It was disgusting for Vicki to say Laurie makes her money on her back. I don't care what she has said about you in the past, that was just plain crude. When Vicki acts like this it makes it hard for me to feel sorry for her. Until recently Vicki was the only one with a legitimate job so many could argue the same about her cast mates.

I don't like the way that Briana reacted to Lydia either. She was super defensive and unapologetic for Ryan completing flipping out and twisting the story. Then she made the comment about getting a bucket out to clean the wine and mud off her mother's couch, insinuating that it was Lydia's mom that made the mess. I always thought she was so level-headed, but I lost a lot of respect for her. Vicki continues to be a mess and a hypocrite. She defends that scum Brooks even though her daughter has clear evidence of him being a complete jerk. She yelled at Grethcen previously for not defending women and now she won't even stand up for her own daughter. She is pathetic.

I've listened to the tape recording of Brooks. It's out there on the internet. It is so clearly a set up. Ryan gets Brooks sloshed and then steers the conversation towards "how he feels" after an argument with Vicki. Briana and Ryan released the tape after the whole Ryan/Judy fiasco. Amazing to watch a daughter sit there with a polite smile on her face and annihilate her own mother on national television.

Looks like Brianna has learned from her mom really well. Brianna stated that she saw what had happened on tv when her husband trashed Lydia's mom at her mom's party. She made excuses for Ryan, she stated, he was stressed, he was protective, whatever else she wanted to use as an excuse for her husband's behavior. As a matter of fact...in true Vicki fashion, she stated upfront she wasn't going to go there when it came to bashing her husband who was in Afghanistan. Hmmm...just a half an hour later, we have Vicki also, after hearing what her daughter has said about Brooks, not wanting to believe what was said, not wanting to hear anyone trash Brooks and was making excuses for him. Children learn what they lived. I am truly afraid that Brianna is in a relationship with an abusive man. She's stated she was abused as a child and she said her mom has been involved in bad relationships throughout her life. I hope that baby Troy won't grow up to see his dad disresepct his mom the way his daddy had disrespected an elderly woman who simply had her feet up on the couch because her feet were hurting her from wearing shoes at a party.
