There were definitely tears in homes across America on Sunday night as Lea Michele accepted the award for best actress in a TV comedy and thanked her fans for their love and support in the wake of her boyfriend Cory Monteith's tragic death. Today, I feel a twinge of sadness again as photos emerge of movers clearing out the late Glee star's Hollywood apartment. Around 10 a.m. Monday, boxes and furniture were carried out of his old place. As of right now, there's no indication of where the belongings are headed.
Ugh. Sad is an understatement. The harsh reality, though? Life is going to go on. Cleaning out Cory Monteith's apartment, it had to happen. And let's face the facts here: if Lea Michele can stand up on stage in front of loads of people, and put on a smile for her fans and the media and say that she is moving forward, then it's about time we all did, too.
I'm not saying it's time to forget Monteith. That will never happen and, quite frankly, it's impossible. The actor has left behind such a legacy through the music he recorded on Glee and the impact he's made with his character, Finn. What I am saying, though, is that it's OK to move forward. Sitting home, mourning the loss of a great friend, that's natural. But as the days continue, Cory's close friends and family are doing the best they can to progress and that includes cleaning out that apartment.
My heart is with Lea Michele. My heart is with Cory's family. Let's hope that as the days continue, dealing with this loss becomes a little easier.
