Disturbing Details on Amanda Bynes' Condition Mean She’s Not Faking It

Amanda BynesThis week Amanda Bynes was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility after setting a fire in some random stranger's driveway in Thousand Oaks, California. Thank goodness she didn't manage to light herself, her dog, or anyone else on fire, but going around and starting fires is never a sign of good mental health, especially following so many months of bizarre, puzzling, and often downright bordering on dangerous behavior. Now Amanda's parents are seeking an involuntary conservatorship, which would put them in charge of her finances and mental health care. Some disturbing details have emerged from court documents about Amanda.

According to TMZ, who somehow got a hold of the conservatorship bid court records, Amanda's parents point out that:

- The fire in California proves that Amanda is in danger of physically harming herself.

- Amanda is not capable of taking care of her own finances, and they point out that over a million dollars disappeared from her bank account.

- Amanda has "profound issues with her body image" and is "obsessed with the fact that she (and others) are ugly." (Oh yes, we all know that!)

- She spends "a substantial amount" for marijuana and other illegal substances.

- She is detached from reality, for example saying that she "cabbed it" from New York to Los Angeles. (Maybe this is where her money went. Bad joke.)

- Her parents believe she is homeless despite owning two properties. She was forced out from numerous other properties due to her erratic behavior.

- She is "extremely paranoid about being watched," and she covers smoke alarms with towels and tapes windows shut to prevent cameras from taking pictures of her (which isn't an entirely unreasonable worry, given the paparazzi!).

- Her parents say they will provide round-the-clock care for Amanda in their home but not seek treatment for her because she does not believe she needs care. (Good luck with that one, parents!)

Doctors reportedly think Amanda "has schizophrenic tendencies" and are holding her for another two weeks for further evaluation. TMZ reports that she has long stretches where she appears normal, but then has disturbing signs of mental illness, including berating and insulting her psych ward roommate and accusing her parents of trying to kill her.

This is a very serious situation and it wasn't going to be long before Amanda's behavior got into dangerous territory. I really feel for what her parents are going through. And Amanda herself. But at least she has some chance now of getting help.

Do you think Amanda is schizophrenic?

First thing that came to mind when I read that she was paranoid about being watched....meth. I have a neighbor who I used to be friends with(before I knew she was using) & she was always talking about ppl trying to spy on her. Jer behaviors was just off. She would blame you for stuff or said you did something when you didn't. She said she was bipolar, so I thought it was just that, but NOPE! It was that mixed with meth & pain pills.

Paranoia, fear of being watched, and her tweets about people stealing her thoughts are all classic symptoms of schizophrenia.

Oh, geez. Now we're diagnosing people? Obviously, this woman has mental health issues. Shouldn't we leave her alone? You don't write articles about celebrities' health problems unless that person explicitely makes an announcement themselves. Mental health should receive the same respect.

If you read TMZ's reports, she was drug tested and only weed came back positive. No meth in her system, and just having pot in your system doesn't mean you are high. Marijuana isn't problem, it's most likely metal illness.

Who cares whether a bunch of random poeple on the internet think this girl is schizophrenic?  Are we psychiatrists?  Are we treating this person?  Do we know anything of substance?  She sound sliek she needs help and is geting it.  I hope it helps her.

FYI, drug use is common in the mentally il--they ae "self-medicating" or trying to fix what ails them so they feel better.  Ironically, drug use can also trigger mental illness in suseptible people.

Where is billsfan saying she "called it months ago"?

@Andreamom001, exactly. Drugs and mental illness often go hand in hand, and it makes treatment of either very difficult. Many rehab places will not take the mentally ill, and many outpatient mental services will not work with drug addicts.

Maybe she's paranoid because every detail of her mental health, financial woes and personal crisis are splashed on every c grade blog possible and then debated over by armchair critics. This is so deeply sad. Clearly she's having some challenges - just pointing out that this MIGHT have something to do with them. And Britney's, and Lindsay's, blah, blah blah. Don't say they asked for it. All of these kids are ACTUALLY kids when they get shoved into this life. It breaks them and then we grab some popcorn and watch the pieces fall apart. Blech.

Wow.....all this time, noone had a clue she was mentally ill? And yes, people self medicate. It's sad this young girl is going through this, and everyone is watching her. I'm sure being constantly followed doesn't help at all. Poor thing.
