When it comes to reunions or movies made from old television series, the track record hasn't been good. Think of Charlie's Angels, The Brady Bunch, Dukes of Hazzard, Sex and the City -- few have worked well years after the shows' original glory. But I always thought a Friends movie would be different ... or at least hoped it would be.
Sounds like we'll never find out though, according Lisa Kudrow, who just crushed all of our dreams. In no uncertain terms she told CNN in an interview that there is no Friends movie in the works. "There was never a 'Friends' movie. Ever," she said. "So I've always known it's not happening."
So what about the news earlier this year that a reunion was coming Thanksgiving 2014? Kudrow said that actually took her by surprise.
I went, 'Wait a minute, was I not invited? Oh, my God, maybe there is one, and I wasn't asked to do it.' I even had a moment where I believed it because everything around it looked real. It was a good setup.
Just a setup? How disappointing. She said the creators have assured her she wasn't uninvited, there's just not anything to which to invite her. As for the rumors, she said:
The creators have put them to rest. NBC has. I don't know who else needs to say, 'It's really not happening.
Kudrow, for one, isn't disappointed there won't be reunion at all. She told the Huffington Post:
I wouldn't even have an interest in seeing what those people are doing 10 years later as parents that have to be responsible ... It would be so different that it wouldn't be 'Friends' anymore.
As big of a bummer as it is for the rest of us though, I suppose it may be for the best. Because if they did make a movie and it bombed, that might be even worse. It's probably best to remember our friends as they were back then and not try to mess with what was television perfection.
Do you think a Friends movie could work?
