Tonight marked the long-awaited premiere of season 2 of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and it did not disappoint. The backwoods brood was back with all the lowbrow hijinks we have come to expect, and there were a few new surprises thrown in. (The girls' butter-slathered indoor "redneck slip-'n'-slide" was over-the-top even for them.) But that was no way near the most shocking thing to come out of this episode.
We learned something entirely new about the Shannon/Thompson clan. Despite the questionable meals (like you would never try Mama's sketti recipe) and penchant for mud boggin', June has a lot in common with every single mom in America.
Skeptical? Let me lay it out for you. The first half hour begins with her being totally infuriated by her children's laziness. Instead of doing their chores, Jessica, Pumpkin, and Honey Boo Boo spent most of their time on their smartphones. So June does what any exacerbated mom would do: she punishes them by taking away their phones.
Unfortunately, that move backfires on her. The girls are so bored, they get into even more trouble with the aforementioned butter slip-'n'-slide. For those who missed it, the mischievous trio covered themselves in plastic, then coated that with butter, spread oil all over the floors, and went body surfing. Ridiculous, right? Needless to say, Mama was PISSED, but in the end, she relented. "They have destroyed my house ... I'd rather the girls have their phones than destroy my house," she conceded. How many of us have been there -- not this particular butter-soaked nightmare, but some other punishment we levied that backfired.
Still not convinced that Mama is just like us? If you tuned in for part two of the premiere, you would certainly be a believer. Thanks to a house full of kids, getting any alone time is nearly impossible. They burst into their parents' bedroom anytime they want. Though the thing that clinched it for me was Mama's reaction to Sugar Bear's attempts to be amorous.
He's clearly a little bit sex starved. "If there is any chance for June to be frisky, it's on my birthday," he says hopefully. He's sitting on the bed with a sly look on his face when Mama emerges from the bathroom. He says he wants to "sit and talk and have some alone time." She, on the other hand, rolls her eyes, totally uninterested in getting busy. Apparently his puppy-dog eyes don't do it for her. "A new Crock-Pot or deep fryer might get you to first base," she quips during an interview with producers. I guess Sugar Bear didn't get that memo. As the credits role, you hear her tell him, "Okay. Just be quick." LOL. How many women can relate to that request?
What did you think of the season 2 premiere?
