Earlier today, fans were encouraged by reports from doctors that country singer Randy Travis, 54, had stabilized, and was showing signs of improvement after undergoing heart surgery from complications of viral cardiomyopathy earlier this week. Unfortunately, tonight comes news that he has suffered a stroke.
According to TMZ, he is in critical condition and is undergoing emergency surgery to relieve pressure from his brain. A statement from his rep, said, "His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support." At this point, that's about all anyone can do.
It's not known how severe the stroke was at this point. Hopefully, since he was in the hospital at the time, he was able to get immediate medical treatment for it. That's one thing we know about strokes -- that quick treatment is one of the key factors in improving chances of survival and reduction of complications from a stroke.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the impact of a stroke depends on the area of the brain involved and the amount of tissues damaged. Since we don't have details, it's impossible to know how this will affect Travis, but with a stroke plus heart problems, he definitely has a struggle ahead of him.
So for now, friends, family, and fans wait. There's been an incredible outpouring of support for the legend, and Twitter is filled with prayers and wishes for him to pull through. Hopefully he will, and there will be good news tomorrow. His songs mean so much to so many, and we pray that he'll be able to sing them for us once again soon.
