Jennifer Lopez Sings for Brutal Dictator Like That's Okay (VIDEO)

jennifer lopez concert turkmenistanHappy birthday, Mr. Repressive Regime Leader Accused of Brutal Human Rights Violations, happy birthday to yoooou. This weekend Jennifer Lopez sang for the president of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow's birthday party. And yes, she even sang the song, "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." Nice gig, right? Welllll, maybe not if that president has been accused of a whole buffet table of human rights violations. You know, the usual: Censorship, ethnic cleansing, torture. What do you give the president who has too much? Your soul. Poor J Lo returned home to an ugly backlash. But she claims she had no idea her new BFF Gurby was such a stinker.

J Lo, your PA has Internet access, right?

Lopez's rep says, "Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended." But come on, that's a pitiful excuse. If a world leader is flying you out and paying you a ridiculous sum of money to sing at his birthday party, shouldn't you do a little due diligence and check him out? At the very least, you should find out who the dude is for your own personal safety -- and the safety of your sweet little twins. Anyway, if you care about your peace of mind, maybe it's not such a good idea to entertain dictators.

Do you think Jennifer Lopez (or her people) should have tried to find out about this guy before agreeing to do a gig for him?

She's not claiming to be a moral authority. Why shouldn't she sing for someone that's paying her?

Choco... Chocodoxies

Your right Cass! Why not sing for Hitler and pull in a nice bit of cash? I mean, what is a few people tortured to death and a country of opressed people for a few benjamins?

I love the Stir and their feigned outrage. Loves Beyonce when she goes to Cuba, supports the abusive Alec Baldwin and supports anyone else that is abusive, just as long as those people think like them.

I bet you guys didn't even know who this president was, not where this country is on the map. I will admit I didn't, until this outrage, and I bet blogger doesn't either.

As long as the check clears, I doubt Jennifer gives a crap.

Using Alec Baldwin's offensive actions to rationalize Jennifer Lopez performing for a dictator who has committed crimes against humanity is ridiculous. Shouldn't we view the issues separately and not use one to rationalize another as OK. What Alec Baldwin did is NOT OK and what Jennifer Lopez did in not doing proper research and make money off this man is NOT OK - separate issues that should be viewed as such!
