Alec Baldwin Apologizes for Homophobic Rant

Thank You! 11

alec baldwinAlec Baldwin is not sorry he attacked a Daily Mail reporter George Stark for claiming his wife, Hilaria Thomas, was tweeting through James Gandolfini's funeral. But he is sorry his rant sounded so homophobic. Baldwin sent the gay community an apology through a letter to GLAAD, which they published on their website last night. He wants to make it clear: He hates George Stark for attacking his wife, not for being gay. Here's his statement.

My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone's sexual orientation. My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend's funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.

I have worked, periodically, with numerous marriage equality organizations, especially over the past couple of years, to achieve the very rights that gay couples are earning by recent court decisions. I would not advocate violence against someone for being gay and I hope that my friends at GLAAD and the gay community understand that my attack on Mr. Stark in no way was the result of homophobia.

GLAAD spokeman Rich Ferraro replied to Alec Baldwin's letter, mentioning that there were 11 acts of violence against gay men in New York City just last month, so it's important that Baldwin publicly reinforce his "support for the community and LGBT equality." GLAAD also encouraged Baldwin to take "other visible actions" to fight homophobia. In other words, Alec honey, that's a real nice apology, but you're not done yet.

Do you think Alec Baldwin owes Stark an apology, too, or just the gay community?
