See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock has men falling for her left and right, so it's no surprise that a deleted scene featuring Bachelorette suitor Zak Waddell leaving the Atlantic City hotel the cast was staying in and making way for a pawn shop, where he had plans to pick up some sort of sentimental bauble for his hopeful one-day bride. Gag me.
Seriously, though. 31-year-old Zak seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, so what was he thinking buying jewelry for Des before they've even really gotten to know one another? Doesn't he know that when it comes to gifting in the early stages of dating, there's a fine line between thoughtful and thoroughly creepy?!
Look, I hate the dating game, too, but no one wants to seem overeager or, worst of all, desperate (agh) when getting to know a potential partner. And coming on too strong too fast by buying something too personal or valuable is a surefire way to do just that. It also seems sort of foolish to do when you barely know the person! And it doesn't leave much room to grow, you know?
For example, my mother-in-law attempted to give me my husband's grandmother's diamond tennis bracelet ... just three months into our relationship! I was blown away, but I didn't feel it was the right thing at all. Not because I didn't think we had a future together, but because it was just too much too soon. We both ended up saying, "Thanks but no thanks" to the incredibly generous but inappropriate offer. Fast-forward six years later ... she gave it to me as one incredible wedding gift my husband is now obviously more on board with.
To his credit, Zak says he planned on buying the ring so he could give it to her later. Thank goodness. Still, even if he ends up being her Mr. Right, won't it be a little weird for him to tell her he went out and bought her a ring while she was out on a 1-on-1 with some other dude? That's not exactly the memory I'd want attached to any piece of jewelry.
Here's the clip if you haven't seen it ...
