In sad news earlier today, we heard reports that Paris Jackson, 15, had reportedly attempted suicide. We hoped they were false, but unfortunately it seems they're true, and the details that are coming in are heartbreaking.
According to People, Jackson "cut her wrists with a kitchen knife and took as many as 20 ibuprofen tablets." Fortunately, she's now physically fine. Mentally, however, it appears that the girl who seemed so strong in the wake of her famous father's death, is suffering greatly.
A source told the magazine:
Paris has been very, very depressed for a while. She's been throwing fits and tantrums, kicking and screaming and cutting herself.
Earlier this morning, before the attempt, she tweeted a heartbreaking line from a Beatles song, "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away now it looks as though they're here to stay." The source went on to say that her father's death nearly four years ago was, not surprisingly, a big contributing factor to her depression.
She misses her father greatly. She was the center of Michael's world and it's all different now. She says that she is lonely and that she doesn't feel loved.
The family source said while things had been building (she was due to take the stand later this month in the wrongful death lawsuit of her father), it may have been the fact that she wasn't allowed to go to a Marilyn Manson concert that was the final tipping point.
Some of this is normal teenager things, hormonal changes. But now it's serious. Paris has said that there is something missing in her life. This is a cry for help.
Thanks goodness she survived, and she now has the opportunity to get help. It's too bad that things had to get this bad, but it's now abundantly clear that she needs it. Hopefully the family she has left, including her mother, Debbie Rowe, and her grandmother Katherine Jackson, can be there for her in the way she needs them to be.
Are you surprised to learn that Paris Jackson has been this troubled?
