If you watched the Billboard Music Awards last month, you may have noticed a rather awkward moment when R&B singer Miguel misjudged a vigorous leap from one part of the stage to another and managed to boot an audience member in the head as he pretty much landed right the hell on top of her.
It was the seemingly comical moment that launched a thousand gifs, but it turns out that Khyati Shah -- the woman on the receiving end of Miguel's mighty leg-drop -- is currently mulling over her legal options, because she thinks she may have suffered brain damage from the incident. This is bad news for Miguel, but it gets even worse: apparently he was specifically ordered NOT to try the crowd jump, because producers felt it would be too dangerous.
Hooboy. If she wasn't thinking of suing before, I bet she is now.
So here's what happened at the May 19 Billboard Awards: Miguel was performing his song "Adorn" when he hurled himself across the stage and unfortunately biffed the landing, accidentally kicking Shah's head in the process. Shah immediately fell to the floor, but appeared to recover afterwards -- no thanks to Miguel, who must have decided the show should go on no matter how many heads he crushed like a grape.

Dude, way to stop and make sure everyone was okay! Not.
It turns out he did check in with Shah afterwards, bringing her backstage and later tweeting that he'd "got caught up in the moment" and "rock and roll made me do it." He also told Billboard's editorial director,
Well, I think it's kind of clear what happened. But I'm very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met. Unfortunately we did not meet under the best circumstances, but I think we're okay. The crazy thing is, when you're performing and you're just kind of into it, you never know where it's gonna go and where you're gonna go with it, and how that might turn out. So this is one of the less favorable moments.
For Shah's part, she seemed happy enough at the time, even saying, "I adorn him." (Barf.)
Unfortunately for Miguel, Shah isn't quite feeling the, ahem, adornation anymore, because she's lawyered up. Her attorney spoke to TMZ and said that Shah should have been rushed to a hospital instead of being given an ice pack for her elbow during the show, and that she's still suffering as a result of the head injury:
Some of the difficulties she's experiencing are cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury.
Shah's currently awaiting test results from a neurologist and will decide whether to slap Miguel with an adornrable lawsuit once she hears back. Complicating matters for Miguel, TMZ's also reporting that producers had specifically forbidden him from attempting the crowd jump, but during his performance, he decided to defy orders and do it anyway.
I have absolutely no idea if Khyati Shah is legitimately injured or if she's hitched her wagon to a particularly opportunistic lawyer, but I'm thinking that no matter WHAT those brain scan results say, Miguel's team is probably scrambling like hell to make this unpleasant situation go bye-bye. Can you say settlement? I'm sure he can adorn -- er, afford it.
What's your call on this incident? Do you think this woman really does have brain damage, or is she looking for a payout?
