You guys, I didn't even know I wanted this, but now that everyone is talking about it, I'm dying to see it. Actor Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley) is trying to get the Rolling Stones to appear on Downton Abbey. The ROLLING STONES. On Downton. This could happen. This could actually happen. Worlds colliding! Shooting stars! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria -- in a glorious, Earth-shattering way! I am so ready for this, Julian Fellowes. BRING IT, BITCH.
Okay, so here's how we got here. Apparently the Rolling Stones band members are all fans because of course they are. They're drug-addled and lobotomized, but they're not stupid. They actually schedule rehearsals around the broadcasts, according to rumor. AND. Hugh Bonneville is friends with Stones drummer Ronny Wood (figures, he would be friends with the most boring one). A source told The Sun, "Obviously they wouldn’t play themselves, but they could be a rag-tag bunch of traveling entertainers or even a circus act. It would be such a coup, and fun for the Stones. They really are huge fans of the show."
Well of course they wouldn't play themselves. We know that.
Anyway, a rep for the show says there are no plans for the Stones to appear on Downton. YET. I'm adding that "YET" there because hope springs eternal. Julian Fellowes owes us for killing off Matthew in such a violent manner. I mean, really, that blood trickling down his forehead -- was that necessary? I know it's not Fellowes' fault Dan Stevens decided to leave. But I'm blaming him anyway and he can make it up to me, personally, and everyone else who loves Downton by plunking the Stones into an episode.
It would be so easy, too. Just make them guests at that nightclub cousin Rose likes so much. Or they could be visiting guests, maybe someone's distant relatives, and they get caught smoking a hookah in the drawing room instead of getting tight on brandy like you're supposed to. Or what about a band of burglars? Nah, I think I really want to see Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in smoking jackets. Yeah. The more I think about it, the more sure I am that I want to see those two in smoking jackets.
But you know. You can't always get what you want. SIGH.
Would you like to see the Rolling Stones appear on Downton Abbey?
