Angelina Jolie has made her first public appearance since announcing in the New York Times via an editorial that she had a prophylactic double mastectomy after testing positive for the gene that causes breast cancer. She looked stunning all in black beside Brad Pitt who held tight to her waist at the premiere of World War Z and spoke highly of his partner.
The news that Jolie -- an actress perhaps most famous for her stunning figure -- chose to purposely change her body in such a dramatic fashion was stunning. Of course for those of us who also lost our mothers to breast cancer and who also did this gene testing (like me), she is a hero.
As Pitt said:
That's who I fell in love with from the very beginning. The person that you see now is the person that I've always known and she's heroic and incredibly strong and will attack any problem head-on and make it work.
No matter what you think about Jolie's personal life, there is no denying the sheer bravery and will it took for her to take this huge step. Physically, she looks the same, but emotionally, I am sure it took enormous courage.
What did you think of Jolie's decision to do the mastectomy?
