After you watch the trailer for Don Jon, which tells the tale of a man who's addicted to pornography, you're most likely not going to believe that the main character is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This is the same kid who was in 3rd Rock From the Sun and 10 Things I Hate About You? Inconceivable. Now he's buffing up, rocking a New Jersey accent, and seducing the incredibly gorgeous, girl-crush-worthy Scarlett Johansson in this latest flick that he both wrote and directed.
My, my, how times have changed.
As Jon Martello, aka Don Jon, says, "There's only a few things I really care about in life. My body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls, my porn."
Amen to that, I guess? Yeah. You know you have to watch it now.
Here is the trailer:
How exactly would you even begin to describe this trailer? Sexy? Funny? Strange? Amusing? Biopic of Mark Wahlberg? (Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch do have a "Good Vibrations" cameo, after all.) I also have to mention the quick peek at the hilarious Anne Hathaway and Channing Tatum cameos in the rom-com. Kind of wish they didn't include that in the trailer, though, and left their appearance as a surprise for those of us ignorant to the movie's surprises.
Regardless, the trailer seems refreshingly original with plenty of dark humor -- though I'm sure plenty of movie-goers will tune in to gawk at Scarlett and see how far she takes this role. She is the one, after all, who is apparently beautiful enough for Jon to try to break his porn addiction, and from this two-minute trailer, it looks like she's been perfectly cast.
And then the end, when he was driving and singing, having to pause when stopping next to another car ... who hasn't done that? Pretty awesome moment.
Anyway, the movie full of Jersey accents and Tony Danza premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and earned a ton of praise. It will hit theaters October 18. Between playing instruments, dancing, singing, acting, writing, directing -- jeez, is there anything JGL can't do?
