Uhhhhh, can someone please explain to me what just happened during the freestyle performances on Dancing With the Stars? Because I'm sitting here crying -- which never, EVER happens when I watch this show. Like ever.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy tuning in each week and all and it's fun to watch the performances, but I'm simply not one of those people who "gets" dance.
I never understood what the hype was all about -- that is, until I watched Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough's contemporary freestyle routine.
To say that I'm speechless doesn't even cover it. (I'm NEVER speechless.) Their performance was, in a word, unbelievable.
And now I get it. I really do. And if they don't win the mirror ball trophy, I may not be recapping the show next season. (Ok, that's a lie. But seriously -- that's how moved I am after watching them.)
Seriously, you guys -- I'm kind of a mess. And I've never teared up from watching DWTS, until tonight, I guess.
There is quite a bit of glitz and glamour on this show, and sometimes it's easy to forget what the competition is all about. It's about people who have no professional dance background learning how to captivate an audience after taking the ballroom floor. And it only seems fitting for the person who did that most effectively this season to take home the title of "winner."
Yes, Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas' routine was incredible. And yes, Jacoby Jones has a ton of heart and soul and he's such a fun guy, and Karina Smirnoff is beyond talented. And Zendaya and Val have been consistently awesome all season long.
But Kellie Pickler is the one to beat. She and Derek deserve to win DWTS -- if for no other reason than they earned it. Honestly, at this point, in my opinion, they've already won -- even if for some strange reason the voting doesn't go in their favor in the finals.
In case you missed Kellie and Derek's performance, here's the video clip. You might want to grab a tissue or two before watching -- it's that good.
Who do you think will win tomorrow night?
