Before we get into the specifics, let's just get this out there: Last night, during week 9 of the Dancing With the Stars semifinals, everyone brought it. Yowza! (Okay, fine, everyone but Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson during their lukewarm samba routine [but we still heart you Ingo!].) The contestants all had the tall order of performing two routines, and wow! I couldn't believe how on point they all were. My personal favorites of the night were Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas' afro jazz routine (obsessed!), and Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff's Argentine tango (gorgeous!). Yes, Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy's hip hop routine was perfection, but bo-ring!
Zendaya is an amazing dancer. Sure, her rapid quickstep left a little to be desired, but the girl has moves -- as she should have moves, because she's been dancing her whole life! Of course I was excited to see the hip hop routine she and Val came up with -- and it was fantastic! Not a single hip thrust out of place! But not only did we know that was going to be the case, it was like Val was the one being critiqued. The show is Dancing With the Stars, right? Not Dancing With the Dancers? (And side note: I wasn't loving the song and outfits they chose either. We knew they were going to have an unbelievable routine -- at least shock us with crazy getups and a super high energy song!)
At the end of the day, Zendaya is probably the best dancer out of all the stars, so she should win, as this is a competition after all. But like Nicole Scherzinger a few seasons ago, it's going to be so anti-climactic. I mean, think about it, who would you be more surprised to see take home the Mirror Ball Trophy: Zendaya or Jacoby Jones?
That's what I thought.
What was your favorite dance last night?
