'Biggest Loser' Divorce Announcement Comes at Most Baffling Time

Sam Poueu Stephanie AndersonSam Poueu and Stephanie Anderson had one of reality television's most heartwarming romances. After meeting on The Biggest Loser, Poueu proposed on the show in 2010, and they married in April 2012. This January, they announced they were expecting a baby, and it looked like had found their happily ever after. So today's news that they are divorcing is especially shocking.

They've been through some of life's biggest ups and toughest downs together, many of which we watched play out before our very eyes. They literally went through thick and thin together (they lost a combined total of almost 250 pounds), and even sickness and health as Anderson had to nurse Poueu back to health after he fell from a 54-foot high roof deck.

So what could it be now that's so serious that they are going to split when their baby's arrival is just weeks away?

In a statement to Us Weekly Stephanie's rep didn't offer much insight:

It is with great sadness that my marriage to Sam Poueu is ending. Thank you in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.

Pregnancy can be fraught with plenty of fear and emotions, but it's also one of the most beautiful times in a couple's life. She's currently seven months along, and it's hard to understand why they can't just stick it out for a little while longer and at least try to raise this baby together. It certainly makes us suspect that something pretty major happened.

After all they've been through, it seems like they should be able to work anything out. However, time and time again we learn that relationships aren't always what they seem ... especially those on TV.

Are you surprised to learn of this couple's plans to divorce?

It is NEVER good to stay together just for the kids. I witnessed it first hand and it isn't a happy place to be, There is much moreto the story that the public doesn't know. I don't think they should suck it up and stay together just becuse they have baby on the way. It's heatbreaking they are divorcing so soon but without knowing why we should tell them to suck it up for the baby.

After a head injury, a person's personality can change completely.  He may not be the same man that she fell in love with.  I have known a couple of sweet, gentle men who developed severe anger issues after head injuries.  I wish them both the best.

Maybe it's not his kid. "Staying together for the kids" or not is usually a little different than breaking up during a pregnancy, especially for a married couple. I don't think it's that common. Usually the pregnant woman wants to be very close to the husband during that time, if he is the father at least.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this.  I loved watching them fall in love on the Biggest Loser and thought they were a great couple together.  Again, this just shows that we really never know what is going on in someones personal life even if we think we do.  I wish them both the best and hope that they can co-parent their child together without conflict.

His personality may have changed after the accident. That is totally true. I had another thought while listenening to him tell the story. He was so damned drunk that he fell like he did. He doesn't remember a thing after drinking Saki. Who's to say he doesn't have a drinking problem? That is too bad.

I'm with prplecat, my ex-husband had two brain surgeries for his epilepsy. It completely changed his personality. A sweet loving man suddenly became controlling and abusive. I was forced to leave him after he started punching me.

NEVER stay together for the kids sake. I stayed with my ex husband for 10 years, only for our children. I was never in love with him. I always tried to convince myself, and tried to stay for the kids sake. If the love is not there, you cannot force it. If there are bigger problems, you need to take care of yourself and your children. Broken families are unfortunately more common these days. But people learn how to make it work. My girls were very angry with me when I left their father, but 3 years later, they are happier than ever. Staying with him as long as I did=worst decision ever. Breaking up our family and starting over=best decision ever. We make it work. I wish the best for this couple and pray that they can make it work.

L wish them the best. I hope they can pray about it and at least be cordial to each other so that they can both raise their baby. Good luck, and God bless them and baby too.
