The Jersey Shore is gone from the air, but definitely not forgotten. It's bizarre to think such a wild and rag tag group of young adults (and I use the word "adults" loosely) could have such a huge cultural impact. They are actually responsible for adding words and phrases to the lexicon (i.e., GTL, Smush, and Gorilla Juicehead). I knew they had made their mark when the women in my mother-in-law's prayer circle, who only watch religious programs, actually knew who Snooki was. So I was saddened to hear that one of the notorious housemates was in the hospital.
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro is being treated for kidney stones in Florida, according to People. And his rep says that he's in a lot of pain. Poor Ron Ron. It surely has already been a rough year for him and on-off-on-off-on girlfriend Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola.
They were definitely the least favorite (and least interesting) of all the boozy, brawling members of the gang. Viewers were just as annoyed as the housemates with their turbulent romance. They were constantly fighting and sucking the others into their ridiculous drama. It's no surprise they haven't been flooded with the same number of opportunities and offers as Snooki, JWOWW, Pauly D, and Vinny, who have their own spin-offs, or The Situation, who has done Celebrity Big Brother and Dancing With the Stars. The rest were far more likeable than Ronnie and Sam.
Still, they have tried to remain relevant. When he got sick, he was in Orlando promoting his new alcohol line Smush Cocktails at the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America Convention. And the couple has been spotted around New York at various events, posing lovingly on the red carpet. Though as time goes on, I imagine people will care less and less about the pair. Unfortunately for them, their 15 minutes are pretty much up.
