Reese Witherspoon Arrested for Picking the Wrong Time to Stand by Her Man

GossipMonger 33

Reese Witherspoon Jim TothSometimes it's good to stand by your man. Other times you just come off like a giant jerk. And it looks like Reese Witherspoon just learned that lesson the hard way. The actress was arrested along with husband (and agent) Jim Toth on Friday when cops say she got mouthy during a DUI stop.

To be clear, it was Toth who is accused of having a few too many before getting behind the wheel. He was pulled over by a cop who spotted him weaving in his Ford Focus. And that's when officers say Reese pulled the notorious, "do you know who I am?" line.

Er ... Reese does realize her husband was being accused of drunk driving, doesn't she? This is not some parking ticket she was protesting. If Toth was inebriated, he could have killed someone, including her!

More From Our Partners: More Details On Reese Witherspoon's Arrest

The Atlanta police department was quite literally protecting Reese's life here. The least should could have done was be quiet and cooperative, if not flat out pissed at her husband for doing something so irresponsible.

There's no word on whether Reese herself had been drinking, although it would go a long, long way in explaining why she would have acted so full of herself in front of the cop. She has been charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly exiting their vehicle despite having been told by an officer to remain seated inside during Toth's sobriety test. According to the police report, she also asked:

Do you know my name? ... You’re about to find out who I am.

I can tell you from talking to a fair amount of cops who HAVE ticketed celebrities over the years: it's pretty much the worst thing Reese could have said. Nothing makes an officer more annoyed than someone who is trying to act like they're above obeying the law.

And nothing is more upsetting to average Americans than someone treating drunk driven like it's no big deal. Reese wasn't drinking and driving herself, but her attitude about this whole thing is not going to help her career. Supportive wife or not, this was one time she should have kept her mouth SHUT!

What do you make of Reese getting mad at the cops for arresting her husband? Does this tarnish her image?

Her complaint was how long it was taking.   I don't think someone in complete control of their faculties would think that  disobeying and arguing was the way to speed things up!

DUI should tarnish her image.    She wasn't driving but she didn't stop him from driving either!    Someone in every party has to remain sober enough to make sure there is no DUI.

They are rich enough to hire a limo or driver for the night. What's wrong with people?

Are we in the public forum convicting someone of drunk driving and *sassy talk* here when all we have to go on is some cop's word? Oh boy.

Wow, Reese Witherspoon is the last actress I thought would act that way. I am by no means perfect and when I was younger there were a couple times I stupidly drove while I had a buzz. But after I became a parent I hung all that childishness up. I still drink on occasion but when my husband and I get to go out one of us stays sober or we have another DD. I have a kid who needs me around and I would be devastated if my stupidity caused someone to be killed. I still love Reese Witherspoon as an actress but this was some seriously poor judgement on both her and her husband's part.

I was surprised that she behaved like that. I guess because of the roles she plays as the sweet little girl next door, I thought she was like that. Reese because of your position you need to be a better role model. Shame on you!

Crazy! No "tuffy".. she obviously was disobeying orders from a police officer and acting out of control.. That's why she is in trouble. Not "sassy talk". Don't mess around with cops trying to do their jobs! Duh

There have been several, several "blind items" in gossip magazines that imply that Reese is certainly not the sweet, lovable girl next door she is portrayed as. I know it's just gossip, but she is allegedly very difficult to work with and has a diva-like, bitchy attitude. This arrest just confirms those rumors. Not surprised at all. I think they're probably all assholes in Hollywood, laughing their way to the bank, because we poor schmucks are making them rich.

The woman has articles of clothing and purses that cost more than a Ford Focus.
