Kevin Bacon Tweets MAJOR Spoiler for 'The Following' Then Presumably Dies of Embarrassment

TV Addict 5

Kevin BaconMore and more, today's TV stars are taking on the additional job of engaging with fans and promoting their show via Twitter. Of course, it's not always easy to talk about a particular episode via social media without ruining someone else's viewing experience ("RIGHT???" -- every U.S.-based Downton Abbey fan), as Kevin Bacon recently discovered when he retweeted what turned out to be a major spoiler about his series The Following.

He quickly deleted the tweet and posted a sincere apology, but I can only imagine that for some viewers, the damage was already done. If there's one man who's currently cursing the accessibility of that oh-so-easily-clicked retweet button, I'm guessing it's Kevin "My Bad" Bacon.

(Warning: I'm about to print the actual spoiler, so read no further if you're still getting caught up with The Following.)

For those who aren't familiar with the show, The Following is about a former FBI agent (Kevin Bacon) who finds himself in the middle of a network of serial killers created by one mastermind murderer who controls his copycat followers via the Internet. The Following's 12th episode, "The Curse," aired on April 8, and this is what someone tweeted to Bacon and show creator Kevin Williamson afterwards:

@kevinbacon is a murderer too! Nice twist @kevwilliamson @thefollowingfox #JoeCarol

And that, unfortunately, is exactly what Kevin Bacon retweeted to his 234,000+ followers. Yeah: oops.

He quickly realized his mistake (or, more likely, someone was quick to point it out to him), and posted this video:

Bacon followed up with another tweet:

To all the fans abroad and late watchers I'm truly sorry I retweeted a spoiler. I just wasn't thinking. Won't happen again. #MyBad

Ah well, I'm sure fans will get over it. Eventually. And I'm sure Kevin Bacon has learned his lesson about teasing those big plot twists without giving away the whole enchilada.

Did you happen to see this spoiler? Would you be P.O.'d if a TV star you follow on Twitter accidentally revealed a major revelation like this?
