Ryan Gosling's Bank Robbery Was Real! Can He Rob Us Now? (VIDEO)

Say What!? 0

Ryan GoslingI apologize if you're getting super tired of hearing me gush about Ryan Gosling lately, but, well, what can I say. Gosling's been making news lately for his upcoming movie roles, and I basically can't pass up a single opportunity to write about him, because he's such an intriguing, talented actor whose career is so fascinating to watch and also MMMM RYAN GOSLING *makes Homer Simpson drooling noise*

Okay, so you saw how incredibly, creepily hot he is in the trailer for Only God Forgives, right? Now feast your eyes on Ryan Gosling in on The Place Beyond the Pines, which was released on March 29th. Gotta say, he looks equally fantastic in this role (oh hello, perfectly chiseled abs) as a motorcycle stuntman turned bank robber.

As for the bank robbing scene, get this -- it really happened.

At least in the sense that the director arranged to shoot the scene in one take in a real bank, and the people in the scene are actual customers and tellers instead of actors. I mean, they were just there doing their everyday boring banking stuff when Ryan Gosling showed up. Dude. How lucky can you get?

According to a recent interview, Gosling says he's always wanted to try a heist like what he filmed in Beyond the Pines:

I’ve been thinking about a bank robbery my whole life, and I finally got to do it.

Of course, it wasn't a real robbery, but it wasn't your typical on-set shot with a bunch of extras, either. The scene was filmed in a real bank with real patrons and employees, which apparently resulted in some unintentional reactions from the crowd:

I’m there with the gun and I look down and people are just smiling. They were just enjoying the show and I think I spotted someone filming me on their camera phone as I robbed the place.

Um, yeah, I would SO be surreptitiously whipping out my cellphone. Because I'm gonna need some visuals for the story I'll be telling for the rest of my damn life:  "Oh, I was just depositing a check when Ryan Gosling came in and STOLE MY HEART."

Here's the trailer for The Place Beyond the Pines, and you can see a glimpse of the bank scene at 1:00:

Aside from my burning jealousy for those lucky bank patrons, this looks like a really interesting film. Gosling's not the star throughout -- the movie spans more than 15 years and plays out three interconnected storylines -- but there's a lot to like aside from his presence (and the intriguing idea of seeing the beginning of his off-screen romance with Eva Mendes). You've got your car chases, guns, and cop corruption; but also some deeper stuff that makes me think it's going to have some of that haunting sorrow director Derek Cianfrance brought to his previous Gosling collaboration, Blue Valentine.

Although Ryan Gosling may not be the lead, actor James Franco is clearly besotted with his performance:

I loved the whole film and was engaged every moment of the way. But what I want to talk about is the first section, the Gosling section; I want to make love to this section. (…) The rest of the film is great, but the following two sections can't hope to burn with the same intensity of the Gosling section, they're not designed that way. It's not the actors' faults, it's just that Gosling was cast as the shooting star, and he sucked up all the oxygen.

Heh. NO ONE CAN RESIST THE GOSLING. Not even people who may have initially thought they were in the midst of being robbed.

What do you think about The Place Beyond the Pines? Have you seen it/are you planning to?
