christopher abbott girlsGuys. Bad news about Girls. Marnie's on-again, off-again bearded boyfriend Charlie is leaving the show. Christopher Abbott, who plays Charlie, is not coming back for season three. Apparently, he "butt heads" with show creator and star Lena Dunham about the direction in which the show was going, and said, essentially, peace out; a simple fact that makes me very, very nervous.

I mean, what direction could be so offensive that one of the best actors decides to just up and quit?

According to sources, it was an abrupt exit, one that no one necessarily saw coming. Abbott's rep released a statement saying that Christoper is ...

... grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.

Face.

And it comes at such a sad time, too. Charlie was just getting hot. Like, super hot. And rich.

Listen. I'm not especially upset that Charlie's gone, but the news does make me anxious about this mysterious tack season three is taking. At the end of season two, Charlie and Marnie were back together. She was going to make him snacks late at night, have his little brown babies, then eventually watch him die.

I guess the "watching him die" part might come sooner rather than later as Charlie is either literally or figuratively going to be killed off the show.

It's not fun to hear about dissenters on set, if only because I imagine working on Girls to be similar to staying up late in your bunk at summer camp with all your best friends writing a script for the all-camp play while trying on insane outfits, eating lots of Sour Patch Kids, talking about cleanses, criticizing Tom's shoes, and generally absorbing the overwhelming feeling of God, we're cool, aren't we?, before all falling asleep next to each other on sandy towels on the floor.

To know that someone as essential as Charlie could up and leave that dream gives me an uneasy feeling. What don't we know? WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SEASON THREE?

You must warn us Charlie, it's your duty.

Are you sad to see Charlie go?
