'DWTS' Recap: 'Prom Night' Brings a Few Surprises That Could Change Everything

Jacoby Jones Karina Smirnoff

Sooooo, tonight was prom night on Dancing With the Stars, which did one of two things for most of us watching at home. Either it made us reminisce about our younger, high school days -- or it was a painful reminder of just how awkward and disappointing prom night actually was. (I left in the limo by myself. The end.)

But as far as DWTS is concerned, prom night served a key purpose -- it separated the dancers from the cast members who are doing everything in their power to be dancers but will never actually succeed.

And much to everyone's surprise this evening, a new front runner emerged, one of the past two weeks' losers improved dramatically, and a winner seemed to take a decent sized step backwards.

Let's start with the guy who came out of the gate running and mesmerized the crowd -- Jacoby Jones. I hate to resort to rooting for a Raven, but at the same time, I can't help but root for Jacoby. He was awesome tonight, bottom line. It was obvious that he put his heart and soul into his rumba with partner Karina Smirnoff, and you'd have to be made of stone not to get a little choked up after seeing his mom jump up and down and cheer for him after his performance.

Now let's move onto Victor Ortiz -- where the heck did he come from tonight? His contemporary dance with partner Lindsay Arnold proved he can actually move -- and he's quite good at it. After being at the bottom of the leader board last week, no one had high hopes for him. But with tonight's performance, he put himself back in the competition.

And that brings us to Zendaya, who seemed a tiny bit off tonight. She absolutely nailed her performances during the first two weeks of DWTS, so I guess having a slip-up was bound to happen at some point or another. Either she was way too emotionally invested in the dance since she dedicated it to her grandmother, or she just wasn't feeling it. Whatever the case, she proved that she's not perfect on the dance floor.

(One last note -- Sean Lowe's overalls are definitely worthy of a mention, but I refuse to comment on them any further.)

It will be interesting to see who goes home on tomorrow night's results show, but if I had to guess, it will probably come down to Wynonna or D.L. Hughley. They just don't seem to be on the same level as the rest of the cast, and it's only going to become more apparent from week to week.

Who was your favorite dancer tonight? Who do you think will go home?
