Well, it's about time! Although we've heard lately that agents were lining up to pitch Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James at Vanity Fair's famous Oscars party and actor Stephen Amell (from The CW's show Arrow) took a meeting about playing Christian Grey, we've been waiting for what seems like FOREVER for legit casting news. But fans got quite the shock when English actress Sheridan Smith tweeted a major announcement ...
She wrote, "I'm so excited to tell you that I've been cast as the lead girl in 50 shades of grey opposite Eddie Redmayne, can't wait to start filming!!"
Wait. WHAT?! Why in the world would they be cast?! Noooo!
Well, if you're rooting for anyone other than Sheridan and Eddie (who most recently starred in Les Miserables and actually attempted to stir up some publicity for the flick by saying he wouldn't pass up the chance to play Christian), you can breathe a sigh of relief, because Sheridan's tweet was ... a total APRIL FOOLS' gag! She later clarified: "I'm crying laughing that some of u actually fell for that!"

Thank goodness. While I'm sure they're both very talented actors, neither is what fans have in mind for Ana and Christian. (I could see Sheridan as Kate Kavanaugh, however ...)
Gotta give Sheridan credit, though. Her prank was so timely. It's actually pretty sad how every week there's a new casting rumor. Most of which we're rolling our eyes over. When it comes to Fifty Shades casting and all the hyper-reactionary and completely fact-free reporting out there about the film, every day might as well be April Fools'! Oh well, maybe it'll just make the actual casting news even sweeter when it finally does arrive.
Are you relieved Sheridan's tweet was a prank? Are you over all these casting rumors?
