Rihanna seems to do pretty much exactly what she wants to do in life, without any pesky inhibitions, but it does seem that she has one person who scolds her for her bad-girl behavior every now and then -- her mom. RiRi told UK Elle that when Mom saw some naked photos Rihanna posted to Instagram, she gave her wild child an earful. "She went crazy on me, I was, like, embarrassed," Rihanna said. "I felt like I got my a-- whipped in front of my class at school!"
Understandable ... but, um, really? Some risque photos are what bothers Rihanna's mama? Of all the things being said and done by Rihanna, THIS is what her mom feels the need to scold her about?
About her mom, Rihanna says:
I'm not afraid of any person in this world but my mother, I'm terrified of her! She called me two days ago and reeled me in about two naked pictures [my friend] Melissa put up on Instagram, a sneak peek from a photo book she's making about me ... She humbled the f--k out of me.
Okaaaayy then! While I totally understand Mom’s concern about the nude photos on the Internet, on that front, it seems a bit like closing the barn door after the cow escapes. I mean, what part of Rihanna’s body have we not seen? Her back molars? Not to mention apparently said photos will be available on a coffee table near you. No judgment here -- Rihanna is a grown woman and it’s her prerogative to reveal however much of herself to the world she wants. My point is that when it comes to motherly concerns, don’t a few naked photos sort of pale in comparison to some of Rihanna’s other life choices? Like, for example, singing a hit song featuring the rousing chorus, “Sticks and stones make break my bones but whips and chains excite me.” Or, you know, getting back together with her physically abusive boyfriend, Chris Brown.
Maybe one of these things is worthy of a “reeling in” phone call? Though, of course, who knows? Rihanna might not be comfortable sharing with the public what her mother really thinks about her daughter’s violent boyfriend. It’s surely much easier to keep the focus on some sexy photos than on that terrible photo of Rihanna’s battered face (her injuries included BITE MARKS) we all remember so vividly from Grammys night not so long ago.
On the other hand, Rihanna recently told Oprah that her father physically abused her mother, so perhaps it’s a sticky subject when it comes to mother-daughter talks. In any case, it clearly doesn’t really matter what mommy says -- her words don’t seem to have any effect on the bondage-loving singer, who Instagrammed a photo of herself on Wednesday wearing a pair of custom thigh-high Prada boots and not much else...
Are you surprised to hear Rihanna’s mom got upset about naked photos on Instagram?
