Last week, I had the pleasure of chatting with Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke, and I gotta tell you -- she's just as down-to-earth as she seems. Plus, she's fired up for season 16 just like the rest of us.
The new DWTS cast was announced last week on Good Morning America, and as you may have heard, Cheryl has been paired with comedian D.L. Hughley, which is quite a shift from dancing with partner Emmitt Smith on the All-Star season.
Rehearsals are already underway as the contestants gear up for the DWTS season 16 premiere on March 18. And while the way the season will play out this time around is anyone's guess, Cheryl gave me a sneak peek of what we can expect this season.
On how things are going with her new partner, D.L. Hughley:
He's the first comedian I've been paired with, and he's amazing! He's hysterical and we have fun and joke around, yet he's very serious about the competition at the same time. We have great chemistry -- and he's getting a kick out of being a guy who wears heels.
On working with a rookie right after coaching an All-Star:
It's definitely different, because I'm used to a certain level after dancing with Emmitt on the All-Star season. I'm trying not to get too technical by starting with the basics.
On how she stays patient with her partners each season:
I always make sure that my partners feel comfortable and don't feel awkward. If they feel awkward, then they'll look awkward on the dance floor as well. I work with them to see what they like, and I highlight their strengths in our dances.
On her favorite partner so far:
Definitely Emmitt Smith!
On what we can expect on the DWTS Season 16 premiere:
We just got done shooting a fun promo with Pitbull that I know everyone is going to love, so that's one of the things fans can look forward to that night!
(Ahh! How are we supposed to wait until March 18 to see that?)
