See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
Just a suggestion: Anthony MackieI love me some Downton Abbey like crazy, but if I had just one complaint (besides the obvious, they need to stop killing off characters), it would be this: It's all white folks! Okay, I know it's England betwixt the wars, and there were no fancy black aristocrats in England in those days. But seriously? Not even downstairs? Is it because they're in the country?
Well, the producers have also noticed how lily white their cast is, and they're going to do something about that. A black character is coming to Downton Abbey. And no, that character is not going to be scrubbing pots with Mrs. Patmore. This character is going to be way more fun than that!
His name is Jack Ross, "a musician at an exclusive club in the '20s." He's in his late 20s and very handsome. "A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma." Oh yeah, must "sing brilliantly," and did we mention sexy? Why is this starting to sound like a personals ad? "Very attractive ... with a certain wow factor."
I would love it if Jack Ross became Edith's next love interest, but he sounds a little too exciting for her. More likely he'll take up with Rose, I suppose. (Lucky girl.) Or maybe he prefers Thomas? But more important than who Jack Ross will do: Who will play him?
Let the casting fantasies begin! Obviously Idris Elba is our first choice. But uh-oh, he's 40, if you can believe it. They're looking for a much younger guy. (I'm still holding out for his James Bond, though.) Ganster Squad's Anthony Mackie is 34 -- I think you could cast him as 30, and surely he can do an English accent because he is an actor. Acting! Please say yes, because he is hotter than hell.
Now I forgot what I'm writing about because I mentioned Anthony Mackie. Oh yes -- casting for Downton. There's also British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was in Love Actually (but don't hold that against him). He's 35, so he's pushing that age limit, too. British actor Aml Ameen is just the right age, 27. He played a troubled teen in the English TV series, Kidulthood. And then there's 30-year-old Columbus Short, who plays Harrison "we're gladiators" Wright in Scandal. (Are you watching Scandal? OMG, you should totally be watching Scandal. It's the best thing on TV now that Downton is over.)
You know, I could play this game alllll dayyyy. But I have a few other posts to write here, so I'll stop. But, just one more question: Where are the Indians in Downton? India was a major part of the British empire! We never seen Indians on the show. What's up with that? Okay, I'll stop now.
Who would you cast as Jack Ross?
