It feels like awards season has been underway for a long time, doesn't it? It's all been leading up to this weekend, and the 85th Academy Awards are happening on February 24. I'm looking forward to spending the evening parked in front of the TV with Twitter loaded on my phone -- because let's be honest, the snarky social media aspect of the Oscars is nearly as fun as the event itself.
There's so much to enjoy about the Oscars, from the fashion to the oh-no-they-didn't moments. It remains to be seen if this year's show will be a huge success or a widely-panned flop, but I'm crossing my fingers there are at least some standout moments in the multi-hour telecast. (Otherwise, that's a LOT of couch-sitting for little payoff.) Here are the top 10 things I can't wait to see on Sunday night:
Jennifer Lawrence's gown. I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence and I super love her style. She's been looking amazing in almost all the appearances she's done lately (excepting, perhaps, that dress "malfunction" at the SAG Awards), and she's jaw-droppingly gorgeous in her new Dior campaign. I can't wait to see what the Silver Linings Playbook-nominated star is rocking for Sunday's red carpet.
The Avengers presenters. Did you know that The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo will present together onstage? PASS ME MY SALTS.
Also, Jack Nicholson. It was just announced that Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman will present together, too. I hope Nicholson does something creepy and leery and awesome.
Daniel Day-Lewis's speech. Assuming he gets Best Actor, and I think this is a pretty safe bet, I'm looking forward to seeing his speech. He's such a pleasure onstage at awards shows: humble, respectful, and just an all-around class act.
An upset Best Picture win. You know what would be downright shocking? If neither Argo nor Lincoln -- the two shoo-ins -- took home the Best Picture honor. I'm not saying they're not deserving, I'm just saying it would be sort of rad to see everyone's Botox'd faces going WTF??? if, say, Beasts of the Southern Wild won. Hey, a girl can dream.
Christoph Waltz. Whether or not he wins Best Supporting Actor for Django Unchained, I just can't wait to see him. Because I LOVE HIM SO MUCH YOU GUYS.
Seth MacFarlane. Okay, I have to put the host on the list. I'm not a rabid MacFarlane fan, but I'm hopeful that his trademark outrageousness will be entertaining -- without completely disrespecting the people the awards are meant to honor.
The movie musicals performers. Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter and more will take part in a "celebration honoring movie musicals of the last decade," including Chicago, Dreamgirls, and Les Misérables. Should be interesting, if nothing else.
Adele. Adele! What more can you say? IT'S ADELE. Singing "Skyfall." Can't. Wait.
That show-stealing, totally crazy, completely entertaining acceptance speech by some random person that ends up all over YouTube the next day. There's one every year, it seems. When will it happen? We'll just have to tune in to find out.
What Oscars moments are you looking forward to this Sunday?
