Sad news, Honey Boo Boo fans: Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson isn't doing so well. You might remember that he had a scary situation last December where paramedics were called to the house to check him out, and before that he had to have surgery on a non-draining wound after a four-wheeling accident. Well, his health seems to have gotten even worse lately, because he spent a few days in the ICU this week after being rushed to the hospital Monday morning.
Mama June Shannon says Sugar Bear was “having chest pains like gas pains," and he underwent a battery of tests before doctors diagnosed him with pancreatitis. He's out of the intensive care unit now, but June says Sugar Bear has a "long road ahead of him" -- and doctors are very concerned because of his type 2 diabetes.
Pancreatitis is a serious condition where the pancreas becomes inflamed, and a common symptom is severe upper abdominal burning pain radiating to the back. It's often caused by heavy alcohol use or gallstones, but June says neither of these are factors with Sugar Bear. In fact, no one yet knows what's causing his pancreatitis.
Here's what she posted on Facebook late last night:

(June)
I know their reality show isn't exactly controversy-free, but I've always liked this family and the genuine affection they seem to have for each other. It's sad to hear they're going through yet another health crisis, especially since Sugar Bear was just in the ICU not that many months ago. Pancreatitis is no joke, and I hope he pulls through and gets back to mud boggin' and sketti eatin' as soon as possible.
