The Real Housewives of Orange County will return on April 1 for season 8 and like most of you out there, I can't tell if I'm excited, indifferent, or disgusted. Part of me is like, isn't this horse dead yet? And the other part is like, huh, it's still kind of fun beating it, I guess. Tamra Barney, Vicki Gunvalson, Gretchen Rossi, Heather Dubrow, and Alexis Bellino are still on the show, and original season one cast member Lauri Peterson will make some appearances, as well.
Thankfully, there's some fresh meat this go round. Lydia McLaughlin, 31, joins the cast and if her name sounds vaguely familiar, it's because she was recently on an episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Lydia is the managing editor of Beverly Hills Lifestyle magazine, the publication that featured Brandi Glanville. Lydia was on set with Lisa Vanderpump for Brandi's Hollywood glamour shoot this season and according to sources, Lydia, as well as Heather, were each considered for RHOBH, but were eventually offered roles on the decidedly less popular and way less glamorous, RHOC.
Like Heather, Lydia seems to be super, super rich. She's heiress to a Canadian media company worth over $100 million, and she and her husband Doug own multiple businesses in Orange County and Beverly Hills.
From the short promo for season 8, we can tell that Lydia's being painted as a childish airhead and it seems like she's the new Portia Stewart from RHOA. Joy.
The video also clues us in that Gretchen and Slade want to procreate (gross), that Tamra and Eddie want to get married (all I think when I hear his name is "teeth"), that Vicki and Brooks are still a thing (disappointing), and that Alexis and Heather are still kind of inconsequential (as always).
Check out the video and let me know: Are you excited about RHOC season 8?
