The Next '50 Shades of Grey' Gets a Movie Deal -- Watch Out, Christian & Ana!

OMG 16

beautiful bastard book coverWowow! Remember the "next Fifty Shades of Grey," we discussed a few days ago? Beautiful Bastard, which started out as the Twilight-inspired fan-fiction hit The Office, and was written by Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings? Well, now, the book, which was released yesterday, is officially DESTINED to be huge. Because the film rights to the book have just been acquired by Constantin Film! And Jeremy Bolt, best known for producing the Resident Evil franchise, is attached to produce the adaptation. Ahh! Watch out, Christian Grey and Ana Steele -- Bennett Ryan and Chloe Mills are coming for you!

If you're not familiar with Bennett and Chloe, it looks like there's never been a better time to get familiar with the sexy couple in the erotic novel. Sorry, E.L. James, but the wildly inappropriate pair is about 100x more entertaining than Christian and Ana ...

Yep, that's right -- I said it. Although she matures and gets more confident, Ana grated on my last nerve with her insecurities, naivety, constantly lip-biting, oy ... And Christian -- ugh, what a pain in the ass (literally)! But Christina and Lauren's leading lovers, despite being totally over-the-top, are actually dynamic and likable. Maybe it's because the book is told from both characters' perspectives, so you get to understand both of their emotions in a more multi-dimensional way. Thus, the characters will most definitely be totally outrageous on-screen.

More from The Stir: Mila Kunis' Nudity Confession May Ruin Her Chances of Playing Anastasia in '50 Shades of Grey'

The leading man is going to have to be able to pull off being a bossy jerk and also a hopeless romantic, while the leading lady is calculated, ambitious and, oh yeah, also capable of falling so hard in love that she doesn't even realize it until she's in too deep. In other words, if done right, this will be fodder for actors like Ryan Gosling or Chris Hemsworth as Bennett and actresses like Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, or Emma Stone as Chloe.

Come to think of it -- Fifty Shades fans, you can keep your Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, and Henry Cavill! Beautiful Bastard could very well be the rollicking, lustful screenplay that actually snags the bravest, boldest A-listers after all.

Does this news make you even more psyched to read Beautiful Bastard?

Seriously? When are real writers going to get recognized for creating their own stories, based on characters imagined by themselves and not someone else. It sickens me that these "writers" (I use the term loosely in this case) are getting notoriety off of another person's hard work and creativity. Granted I am neither a fan of the Twilight franchise nor 50 Shades of Gray, and that isn't from a lack of trying, but that is based solely on the quality, or lack thereof, of the writing. I will admit to writing my own fanfiction, but I would never dream of trying to get it published and make money off of someone else's idea, especially for some wanna-be BDSM fad. Please, can we recognize the true inventive and original writers out there for once?

I'd much rather see the Crossfire series become a film, than this. I was hoping that would be the next one given that it has a pretty large following and is popular amongst the FSoG fanbase. I haven't read Beautiful Bastard but I really don't have an interest in reading it, at this point at least.

I disagree. I don't find it more entertaining than FSoG at all! I didn't really like it to be honest, and there hasn't been a similar book or series I've read so far after Fifty Shades that I didn't like to some extent. Crossfire novels were much better than Beautiful Bastard. Right up there with FSoG, so I'd like to see that come to life too. Oh and after Superman Henry Cavill will be an A-list celebrity, fyi.

The producers for Fifty are academy award winners, there is a major studio financing it, and it is under the Focus Features umbrella. Plus, it was optioned for TEN TIMES what this was.

This producer is best known for Resident Evil, has zero financing and zero studio backing it for distribution. Doubt they'll attract any A-Listers to this sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. Good luck waiting to see this ever make it to the big screen.

I bought the book yersterday and couldn't put it down!! Took a day and half and i'm ready to reread it!! Loved this book.  Is there another 1 coming or is there a series? It's not as good as 50 shades but I loved it!!!

Everyone saying Crossfire was better than FSoG, you are out of your mind. It is a complete and total rip off of Fifty Shades...right down to the dumb girl tripping into her boss's office and his arms. Crossfire is a sad copy. Meanwhile, I just picked up Beautiful Bastards and from what I've read so far, it is incredible and nothing yet has been the same. The male figure in this book is an arrogant asshole while Christian Grey was elegantly cocky and a laughable smart ass. The female character is confident and actually works as an intern under the guy. Anastasia had multiple personalities and was severely insecure. I recommend everyone trying it out.

I loved 50 shades of grey. I love the crossfire books. And yes now I've read beautiful bastard I love it also. I hope they all make it to a movie. Though it looks like all books coming out nowadays get movie deals. But the way it looks....they'll all make it to the big screen before 50 Shades does...I'm getting bored waiting and hearing no action starting.

Just finished this book last night. OMG I couldn't put it down! It would be nice to see a continuation of this one. I wouldn't compair Beautiful Bastard to 50 Shades nor The Crossfire series. They are a lot more intense, deep and wonderful readings. Chumping a the bit for the next Crossfire book the come out!!! I will have to reread the first 2 before June.
