The Jennifer Aniston-Angelina Jolie feud must not be selling tabloids anymore! Must be time for fresh blood! That must be the case, because the gossip mill seems to be working at warp speed churning out silly, fictionalized rumors about various other actresses or divas hating on one another. Like Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence. Yep, haven't you heard? The Oscar-nominated actresses are supposedly at one another's throats! But uh, not really.
Chastain set the record straight recently, taking to her Facebook page to rave out about the ridiculous rumors, which she actually sees as illustrative of a bigger problem ...
I find it very sad that media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry. Filming The Help was the most amazing experience and yet, that is the film Im most asked about in regards to "fighting on set". Why do we support the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along?
FABULOUS question! We seem to eat these girl-on-girl "catfight" stories up even more than cheating scandals! Why? It's horrible, because it's probably more often than not a completely vicious, fictitious story just meant to sell magazines. And we seem to fail to realize that the basis of these stories is pretty misogynistic. Do we ever pit men in Hollywood against one another the way Jessica and Jennifer have been, Jennifer and Angelina, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, etc.? No! (Okay, maybe if it's about who is going to play Christian Grey, but that's a different story completely ...)
Jessica went on to describe the relationships she has with her so-called "competition":
I think all of the actresses recognized this year have given incredible performances. But more important, they've all shown themselves to be filled with generosity and kindness. I've done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent. I've told her how beautiful her film work is.
Aww! I don't know about you, but I totally buy that. And that's exactly how it should be.
In closing her Facebook post, Jessica pleaded with her followers to do what they can to set the record straight ...
Please don't allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women arent supportive of each other. Everytime an actress is celebrated for her great work, I cheer. For the more brilliant their performance, the more the audience demands stories about women. With support and encouragement, we help to inspire this industry to create opportunities for women. And as we all know: a great year for women in film, is just a great year for film xxjes
Love. Love. LOVE this! Love her for speaking out on this nasty habit Hollywood, the press, and even women themselves seem to have, perpetuating the idea that we don't support one another and are constantly gouging one another's eyes out. It's about time we cut that out. Because, as Madeleine Albright once famously said, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women." Thanks, Jessica, for helping other women -- in Hollywood and elsewhere -- by setting the record straight here.
How do you feel about Jessica Chastain's Facebook post? Thoughts on the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along?
