When I saw Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I was disturbed. OK, that's an understatement. Rooney Mara was so damn fierce, intense; she brought an energy to the screen that I hadn't seen in so, so long. Which is why today I quiver a little bit about one of the latest Fifty Shades of Grey casting rumors -- where she's involved.
In a recent interview, Mara told Newsweek that she has "a lot of darkness and frenetic energy, so it's easier for me to portray people with shades of grey." OK, Rooney -- I see what you did there, you sly fox.
OK, so maybe it's a little bit of a stretch. Rooney Mara as Anastasia Steele? I don't hate it, not one bit. Is it a little unconventional compared to some of her steamier competition? Sure. But hear me out on this one ...
I think this would be our chance to see Rooney do something different, and still be within her comfort zone. The actress REALLY knows how to embody a character, get in their mentality, and own it. I'm convinced that Anastasia wouldn't be any different. Plus, we saw her get down, dirty, and promiscuous (albeit graphic at times) in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. There's no doubt that Rooney knows her way around an on-set bedroom.
Now the question: Who would be great opposite Rooney? Well personally, I'm totally rooting for Ian Somerhalder. Oh my GOD -- just thinking of the two of them on screen together gives me butterflies!
Do you think Rooney Mara would make a great Anastasia Steele?
