Are you super hungover from the Super Bowl yesterday? I am too! So what better way to ring in one of the most called-out days of the year than watching this truly ridiculous Will Ferrell Old Milwaukee Super Bowl commercial that aired in three tiny towns. Three towns you probably don't live in, I'm guessing?
Apparently this commercial aired in Sherman, Texas; Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Glendive, Montana.
I'm sure by now you've heard the hype (or watched the commercial last night and unfortunately now have it forever seared into your memory) surrounding the Go Daddy ad featuring a nerd making out with hot supermodel Bar Refaeli in an uncomfortably close shot? Well, it's safe to say this is Will Ferrell's awesomely awkward take on that one.
Check it out:
Yep, in a nutshell: Will Ferrell makes out with an old Asian lady on a bus while the camera pans in and out on a six-pack of Old Milwaukee. On the whole, this commercial makes me really, really uncomfortable. (And it's not because I'm Asian, yeesh, people.) It's mostly due to the fact that it's so freakin' weird.
To add to the absurdity, the song playing in the background was a Chinese song, according to Reddit, called "Mother, Where Are You?" WTF?
Believe it or not, Ferrell says he doesn't get paid for these commercials, but they're produced by Funny or Die, of which Ferrell is part-owner. "[These commercials have] given creative freedom to revive a brand and shoot crazy fun commercials," Ferrell told Eater San Diego in December. And it's not the first strange (funny?) commercial he's done for Old Milwaukee, either.
Regardless, if these long make-out sequences are the newest thing in TV commercials, I think I'm gonna stick to Netflix.
What do you think of this truly bizarre Old Milwaukee ad?
