All right, let's be real here: Super Bowl commercials are the REAL deal. Zillions of people watched the big game last night, and only a fraction of them actually cared about the on-field action between the Baltimore Ravens and the 49ers. Myself, I was more into Beyonce's kickass halftime show and, well, duh, the commercials.
Sure, there were a whole lot of winners. Between Amy Poehler's Best Buy gig and the ADORABLE Budweiser Clydesdales, I was laughing then aww-ing then laughing all over again throughout the whole damn shebang. But there's one thing I couldn't help but notice during all the commercial action: the sexism.
I'm not a hardcore feminist and I get it, sex sells. The harsh reality, though, is that a lot of last night's biggest laughs came at the expense of women. Here, let's take a closer look:
1. The stereotypical scary ex-girlfriend courtesy of Toyota:
Essentially what the car company's playing off of is the notion that all women are this batshit crazy after they get out of a relationship. HA! Emotional baggage! Hilarious!
2. Go Daddy. Hot woman + nerd = recipe for success, per usual.
This poor nerdy guy. I saw him on Today this morning and they joked about his arm hurting because he's been getting so many high fives. Go Daddy pretty much is saying that he can't get a hot woman like Bar Refaeli, and Bar Refaeli is lowering her standards to make out with this nerd.
3. Audi sends a senior to the prom and he makes out with someone else's date:
Right, because nothing says "I'm a man, hear me roar" like walking up to some random woman and claiming her as your own. Classy, Audi. The car looks great though!
4. Doritos has grown men play dress-up:
OK, so I think this one's kind of cute. But hello, can we talk gender roles for a second? If these men REALLY want to eat Doritos, they have to play dress-up. Does dressing up as a woman mean you need to be all fussy like that? What kind of message is this all sending to his daughter?
5. The 2 Broke Girls stars take to a stripper pole:
It just kills me when she asks, "Why are we doing this?" and the answer is because it's the Super Bowl, duh. Come ON, THIS is all you've got?
Were you a fan of these commercials? Did you think that they pushed the envelope a little too far?

all are great besides godaddy and 2brokegirls.
People just need to pull their heads out of their asses adn stop getting offended over every little thing.
the godaddy one was terrible and i usually like them :( I saw no problem with the doritos commerical with the dads in drag. I dont see the fuss the blogger is talking about
Only the godaddy one weirded me out, the rest were fine.
I didn't see the issue with the Doritos commercial...if anything, it broke the gender stereotypes as it showed very "macho" men having fun wearing feather boas, dresses and make up!
Someone sure has their boxers in a twist today ;)
I love 4 and 5...Oversensitive people suck :-p
