Jennifer Hudson & Sandy Hook Kids Steal Super Bowl Opening From Alicia Keys (VIDEO)

Inspiring 15

Jennifer Hudson and Sandy Hook Elementary StudentsI don't care what else happens on the field, Super Bowl 47's most shining moment came early in the night. When the students of Sandy Hook Elementary started singing "America the Beautiful," it brought an avalanche of emotion. Then Jennifer Hudson and her incredible voice joined them, and together they brought a torrent of tears to those in the stadium and on couches across the country.

It was amazing -- one of the most moving performances I've ever seen at the Super Bowl. To see those children standing there so pure and innocent, wearing the familiar green ribbons, and to think of their 20 classmates, and six adults, who were gunned down in December, it was almost too much.

But for all the sadness it brought, it also brought feelings of hope. It was a powerful reminder that for all of the evil and sadness in the world, there is still beauty, that America is still a beautiful country where for the most part we are safe.

And let's talk Jennifer Hudson for a moment -- she looked insanely gorgeous. Dressed in a form-fitting white skirt and black top (was that leather?), her body looked killer. But it's her voice, that powerful, soulful voice, that's just chill-inducing. She's a true talent, and I'm so glad those kids got to sing with her.

Afterward, Alicia Keys came out to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," and while it was a lovely performance (albeit a little too slow for my taste), there was just no competing with those kids and Jennifer. I can't imagine anything Beyonce brings will be able to do so either.

In case you missed it, here it is. I promise you chills.

What did you think of Jennifer Hudson and the Sandy Hook children's performance?

I loved the performance and I also love how Alicia Keys sang it. She was beautiful as well and Beyonce just rocked it.

It was breath taking! So powerful. And while I did respect Alicia's toned down anthem with just the simple piano, after Jennifer and the kids, it did seem rather anti-climactic.

And Beyonce killed it! No lip syncing tonight!

Kleptocrats, she barely sang, lmao. But I do think the performance was awesome, especially with Destinys Child coming out

I would like to mention that Jennifer Hudson has lost her family to gun violence.

She sang most of Halo, but I can't imagine how hard dancing like she does and singing at the same time must be. It was a great show though. Apparently she used up half the power in the stadium! Lol

Destinys child was huge my senior year of high school, so I was giddy to see them reunited.  Great show!  There's no way I could have danced for a minute and sang.  Jennifer Hudson was lovely as well.  That's pretty much all I care about in regards to the Super Bowl :)

Jessica, we all know that about Jennifer, and I'm sure we all thought about it as she sang. But let's PLEASE not turn this thread into yet ANOTHER debate about guns.

She is trained to do that. But I would guess, even a seasoned performer can't do it
