The Presidential Inauguration has snagged some of the world's hottest performers -- including Katy Perry, Usher, James Taylor, Beyonce, and Kelly Clarkson to name a few. Kelly just lit the Twitterverse on fire with her version of "My Country Tis of Thee" -- and her new blonde hairdo (which I think suits her very well).
Kelly, who made it no secret that she was a Ron Paul supporter, started off a little shaky -- literally, you can only imagine how bad it sucks to be outside singing in the Washington D.C. cold. Gotta move that Inauguration to April, I say!
But Kelly hit her stride in the middle of the song and then by the time the U.S. Marine band kicked in and Kelly was hitting those high notes, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Well, actually whatever tears would have fallen were evaporated into the chilly air before they got a chance to fall.
As Kelly's final "let freeeeeeeedom ring!" rang out, the crowd roared and waved flags and Obama thanked her and leaned over to kiss her. Poor Kelly, swaddled in a pink scarf, looked like she couldn't wait to get out of there and go somewhere cozy with her new fiance, though.
Here's Kelly's performance:
Some celebrity shout-outs via Twitter for Kelly's performance:
Bette Midler: "My Country Tis of Thee" never sounded better!
Reba McEntire: Okay, now back to work. I flew down to work today so I could watch @Kelly_Clarkson sing before I had to go to the stage! It was worth it!
Maria Shriver: Wow, Beyonce! Her work brought her here, as did Kelly Clarkson's. Hard work pays off. Greatest country on earth.
Oh, right, Beyonce. Well, we already know she didn't vote for anyone but Obama! And she knocked "Star Spangled Banner" out of the ramparts. No lip dubbing for these two megatalented, all-American ladies!
