Hey, Michelle Kwan got married this weekend! Congrats! The Olympic medalist wed boyfriend Clay Pell, 31, director for strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House, this past Saturday at the First Unitarian Church of Providence, Rhode Island. Two-hundred and forty guests, including Olympic champions Brian Boitano, Dick Button, and Dorothy Hamill, looked on as Kwan and Pell exchanged their self-written vows. The bride, 32, wore an ivory Vera Wang gown and reportedly cried as she walked down the aisle, whilst accompanied by her father, Danny. The groom, a JAG and Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, was dressed in full uniform for the ceremony.
If you think this wedding can't get any cuter or more perfect-sounding, you're wrong. Kwan and Pell were apparently so high on love during their ceremony that they spontaneously kissed in the middle of it, not bothering to wait for any of that "You may now kiss the bride" nonsense.
According to a guest: "A few minutes later, the minister said, 'And for their second first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Clay Pell,' and everyone laughed." That's some cute s**t right there, my friends. Usually, the people getting married are so consumed with nerves; and standing up in front of, in their case, hundreds of people; and following the "rules" of the ceremony that a spontaneous smooch would never cross their minds. I love this!
If I were a betting woman, I'd say this is one famous couple destined to last. Loads of congrats to you two crazy kids. May every kiss hereafter be as unplanned and romantic as this. Who needs gold medals when you've got love like this, eh?
Have you ever seen a couple do this at a wedding?
