As the festivities for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration get under way, celebs are barnstorming Washington, D.C. to get in on the fun and show their support for President Barack Obama. Last night, Katy Perry made quite the impression when she joined First Lady Michelle Obama, Usher, and the cast of Glee at the Kids’ Inaugural Ball. While the event could have just boiled down to a run-of-the-mill pop concert, it was about a lot more than that ...
The concert was actually meant for the children of military families and schools in the Washington area. As our FLOTUS put it, the event was to recognize the sacrifices and "level of maturity that is required from military kids." Awesome!
Given the purpose of the night, Katy struck just the right tone ...
While her sometimes-sexy lyrics and skimpy costumes may not make her parents' #1 role model for their little girls, it looks and sounds like her act was pitch-perfect last night. From her hit-filled set -- she performed “Teenage Dream,” “Part of Me,” “Wide Awake,” and concluded with "Firework" -- to her awesomely red, white, and blue patriotic get-up, Katy proved she knows exactly how to give a rousing, stars-and-stripe-ified show. Not too surprising being that girl's gone on a couple of USO tours by now.
Check out her "Firework" performance ...
And here's "Teenage Dream," which has a pretty kick-ass opening featuring a famous, inspiring George Bernard Shaw quote (which Robert F. Kennedy is often remembered for stating) ...
How adorable are the kids in the audience rocking out? OMG, Sasha and Malia are too much!
What do you think about Katy Perry's performances at the Kids' Inaugural Ball?

I like Katy Perry but am disappointed to see she's another singer who doesn't sound very good live.
wait things like this in the song Teenage dream
We drove to Cali and got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and built a fort out of sheets
Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
Let you put your hands on me in my skin-tight jeans
You are right she isn't parents' #1 role model for their little girls, But she wasn't anywhere near pitch perfect. she sounded horrible.
I don't care for her at all but I'll just leave it at that.
I used to like her, but as time goes by not as much! I thought she did ok. Nothing great. :)
Nothing jumped out at me
I didn't care for it, she sounded awful. But my 10 year old would have liked it.
I did not like her but my kids do.
I like her but she does not sound good, live.
