You know things are bad when Alex P. Keaton is calling you out. Michael J. Fox blasted Taylor Swift recently when he said that he never, ever, ever wants the pop star dating his son. Random? Yes. But like pretty much everyone else out there, the dude has an opinion on Swift. However, unlike pretty much everyone else out there, Fox took a jab at how Taylor is choosing to "build her career." His comment is pretty scathing, but he might have a point.
New York Magazine caught up with Fox at a book launch recently, and asked the actor what they thought of Swift. (This all stemmed from a joke Tina Fey made at the Golden Globes in regards to Taylor "steering clear" of Michael's son Sam, who was "Mr. Golden Globe".) Fox said: "I don't keep up with it at all. Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right? What a way to build a career." He then added that if Sam were to bring Taylor home for dinner, initially he wouldn't be alarmed, stating: "I wouldn't even know who she was." But then he joked that he'd remember her if she penned a song about his son. "'Sam, You Piece of Sh-t.' Oh .. that was the girl you brought home!" Fox joked. Or "joked."
I don't know, man. Taylor Swift is getting a really bad rap these days. I used to feel bad for her, being that she was just a young girl, doing what young girl's do. But after what could have been the stink eye to Adele at the Golden Globes, and after Fox's point that a lot of her career is based on former flames -- I'm not gonna like: Not as big of a fan.
Taylor Swift is certainly a talented singer/song-writer. And she seems like a very nice person. But she's a kid in kid relationships. People mess up when they're that age. And I don't think it's mathematically possible that it's never her fault. I get that you write from experiences, but maybe she shouldn't throw every dude she's dated under the bus (even if she's not calling them out by name). A few years ago, she told Us Weekly: "I've always lived by the theory that if a guy doesn't want me to write a bad song about him, he won't do bad things. And he shouldn't, you know?"
No, they shouldn't. But pretty soon no one's going to want to date Taylor at all, out of fear that they'll look at her the wrong way and it'll become a number 1 hit.
However, I guess one person who won't ever have a song written about him is Michael J. Fox's son. Papa isn't having that. And you kinda can't blame him.
What do you think of Michael J. Fox's comments?
