I think we can all agree that one of the most shocking moments during the Golden Globes happened when Jennifer Lawrence accepted her award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Despite being just 22 years old -- a virtual newborn in the acting business -- Lawrence had the audacity to snark on the world's most acclaimed actress by singing out, "I beat Meryl!" when she took the stage.
I mean, who does she think she is, dissing Meryl Streep like that? Jennifer Lawrence needs to learn her place, by god, and I'm just thankful SOMEONE had the guts to call her out on her horrendous behavior. Bless you, Lindsay Lohan, for tweeting what we were ALL thinking during Jennifer Lawrence's unforgivable Golden Globes misstep.
Here's the clip of Lawrence's speech -- you can see her cruel, bitter, gloating remark at about the one-minute mark:
HORRIBLE, right? As Lindsay Lohan wrote,
OMG, Lindsay, you said it! NO1 should ever mess with a legend! Unless mayyyyyyyyybe they were totally kidding and referencing a movie and didn't mean any harm whatsoever, that is.
Yeah, it turns out JLaw was just riffing on a quote from First Wives Club, a movie in which Bette Midler’s character says the “I beat Meryl” line while examining a Golden Globe statuette. Lawrence actually had to explain herself on Letterman last night, saying that it's never a good idea for her to wing it, but adding that "I can’t believe nobody’s ever done it before!"
So, full disclosure: I didn't get the joke, because I've never seen the movie -- but never in a million years did I think she was seriously ragging on Meryl Streep. It was obviously a lighthearted statement with zero malice behind it.
Check out her explanation, which includes the wonderful line, "Hey idiots, it's a quote. From a movie."
Haaaa. God, I love her. God, Lindsay Lohan's a blithering dumbass.
Did you recognize the First Wives quote from Jennifer Lawrence's speech?
