Well, I guess we'd better get ready to see a lot more of her than we ever expected, because Jessica Simpson just landed an NBC sitcom, which will be based on her own life as a mom, singer, actress, and fashionista.
The new show will be produced by Universal Television and Electus, and the Electus founder and chairman, Ben Silverman, seems pretty darn stoked about it. He said:
We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops. From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.
Ok, let me get this straight -- a fictional TV show about Jessica Simpson's life is coming and it promises to have viewers rolling on the floor laughing.
Wait a minute, am I crazy or something? Didn't there used to be a non-fictional TV show about Jessica Simpson's life on MTV? And didn't it have folks in stitches? And didn't it ruin her marriage to Nick Lachey, in addition to making people take her way less seriously? (Maybe I'm just having a huge brain fart, or something.)
Jess seems pretty excited about her new venture and said, "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing."
Huh? Again, let's circle back to her first TV gig, Newlyweds. I'll be the first to admit that I was a huge fan of the show, because you seriously couldn't make up some of the stuff that came out of Jessica's mouth. And now apparently she has more crazy "stuff" going on that you can't make up, except now she has a team of writers to embellish said stuff and make it even more comical before it hits TV screens.
I like Jessica, I really do. She's adorable and funny and all that good stuff, but somehow I'm just not feeling this new sitcom for some reason. And based on how nutty her life became after Newlyweds, it's pretty tough not to see this new show as a huge disaster waiting to happen.
(And you know Papa Joe has to be pretty fired up about it.)
Ok, it's your turn to weigh in. Do you think Jessica's new sitcom will be a hit, and will you tune in for it?
