If you're a bigtime Hunger Games fan, you've probably already seen this week's Entertainment Weekly, which gives us a first glimpse at the sequel, Catching Fire. For those who are a little less familiar with the story, you may have wondered if the blond standing next to Katniss on the cover is that guy, whatshisname, Pita Bread. WRONG. That's not Peeta, you ignoramus, that's Finnick Odair, played by Sam Claflin, and he looks MAHHHVELOUS.
We're still 11 months from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hitting theaters, but that's no reason for Lionsgate to rest on its laurels. The marketing has officially started, and they've kicked things off with a fantastic image of Finnick and Katniss posing in wetsuits, wielding their impressive-looking weaponry.
Check out the awesome photo gracing the cover of EW this week:
Nice, right? We've seen those bodysuits before in the production photos that were floating around a while back from when the cast was briefly filming in Hawaii, but the full-meal-deal photo is pretty great. Entertainment Weekly made another even-more-tantalizing image available via their Facebook page:
Damn. I mean, damn. For those who thought Peeta was sort of a big bag of meh in the movie, well, here you go. TEAM FINNICK.
Still catching up on the story of Catching Fire? Here's the official synopsis:
Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Catching Fire comes to theaters November 22 this year, and according to Fandango, it's the most anticipated movie of 2013 -- analysts are predicting it could be the year's biggest cinematic moneymaker. No wonder the studio's already doing its part to stoke fans' enthusiasm: ka-ching. In terms of early images, I think these are spot-on: we get to see one of the biggest new characters (and he's HOT), and Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss looks pitch-perfect as always. Well played, Lionsgate, well played.
What do you think of this first look at Finnick? Are you excited to see Catching Fire?
