Buckwild took over the Jersey Shore spot tonight on MTV, and talk about a different world. From Seaside Heights to Sissonville, West Virginia, the two are miles apart ... yet the stars' lives are strikingly similar.
Let's see, there was sex, drunk kids doing stupid things, a fight, and cringe-worthy moments aplenty. Heck, there was even a crotch shot from one of the girls and boobs bared by another. The only real differences were the accents -- so thick they made about 33 percent of the show completely incomprehensible without subtitles -- and the added adrenaline of some physical Jackass-style stunts. Other than that, it seems Thursday nights will remain largely the same. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on your appetite for watching young people engage in a bunch of lewd and crude debauchery.
Personally, I'll be tuning in for awhile at least. I had my doubts, but it was actually quite entertaining. And if nothing else, I want to see if these kids make it out of this season alive. While Snooki's stilettos and the tanning bed rays were Jersey Shore's biggest physical threats, the kids of Buckwild are just asking for an emergency room visit at every turn.
The show started off with one of them rolling down a long hill in an old tire (thankfully wearing a helmet) and then moved to "muddin'" in which I swear someone was going to fly off that truck and die. Then they jumped into what was surely toxic water near the power plant from a bridge way too many feet above the water.
There was also riding on a dump truck way too close to power lines, and then diving into said dump truck from their roof after filling it with water and constructing a makeshift swimming pool. Seriously, does MTV have enough insurance to pay for this sh*t, or did these kids sign their lives away?
There was a bit of romantic drama too between Cara (who has a propensity for belly shirts) and Tyler (who has muscles but not a whole lot else). They had a secret tryst in Anna's bed (why not in Cara's I have no idea), and Anna (who showed her temper on more than one occasion tonight) didn't like it one bit.
So yeah, I'd say they got off to a decent start tonight. Whether they'll see success like Jersey Shore, I don't know, but it will be interesting to watch and see where they go from here.
Did you watch Buckwild? What did you think?
