Guess who probably won't be starring in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie? In a recent interview Anne Hathaway described herself as "very vanilla." She doesn't think she has a whole lotta sex appeal -- at least when it comes to her onscreen presence.
I was seen as this bizarre-world good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with -- very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible, and not interesting. I had no grit, no sex appeal.
Aww, Anne. No sex appeal? No way! Let's talk about this.
I can definitely see what she means by her very vanilla image. I don't know if I'd say vanilla, exactly. But yeah ... she's not exactly edgy and gritty, either. She's no dark, punked-out Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Can you imagine how different her Catwoman would have been if she'd been played by someone like Angelina Jolie or Zoe Saldana?
Call me a goody-goody dork, though, but I think we women can have puh-lenty of sex appeal without having to be all dark and edgy. I think sex appeal is all about confidence. And even though Anne keeps saying self-effacing things about her performance in Les Mis (because she has high standards as a performer), I think she still projects loads of confidence.
In fact, I think confidence can be even sexier than grit! Well, depending on what you're into, anyway. Tattoos or no tattoos, people who project passion and confidence have loads of sex appeal.
Do you think Anne Hathaway is too "vanilla" to have sex appeal?
