'Warm Bodies' First 4 Minutes Shows Us Zombies Can Brood Just Like Edward (VIDEO)

by Linda Sharps on December 28, 2012 at 12:13 PM

Warm BodiesThere are two zombie film adaptations I'm looking forward to in 2013. The first is World War Z, which seems like it's shaping up to be your standard mass-disaster flick (complete with fast-moving CGI ghouls and reluctant hero Brad Pitt), the other is Warm Bodies. Warm Bodies looks ... different. Broody. Darkly funny. Between the two, this is the film that actually resembles the book it's based on.

It is, in fact, a zombie romantic comedy. A zom-rom-com. It stars Nicholas Hoult as R, a dead -- but still dreamy! -- young man who longs for lost human relationships, and in the just-released four-minute opening scene, he muses to himself about his current predicament:

What am I doing with my life? I'm so pale. I should get out more. I should eat better. My posture is terrible. I should stand up straighter. People would respect me more if I stood up straighter. What's wrong with me? I just want to connect. Why can't I connect with people?

Oh right, it's because I'm dead.

Based on the 2011 novel by Isaac Marion, Warm Bodies is focused on R and how he eventually falls in love with a normal (non-dead) teenage girl -- after he eats her boyfriend's brains and absorbs his memories, of course. In the sneak preview, we don't yet get a look at Julie, his love interest, but we do get an idea of R's personality and the world he lives in. Oh, and we meet his best buddy, M, played by Rob Corddry.

Check out the first four minutes of Warm Bodies:

Notably, this movie is brought to you by Summit Entertainment, a studio who knows a thing or two about undead teen romance. Unlike Twilight, however, Warm Bodies doesn't seem to be taking itself quite so seriously -- at least not in the first few minutes, anyway. It looks fun, original, and maybe even ... heartwarming? (Which is ironic, given the subject matter.) I'm definitely interested in checking it out when it hits theaters on February 1.

What do you think about the first four minutes of Warm Bodies?
