Despite their home in California, it was probably a very cold Christmas for Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy. The two officially announced their split on December 23 (two days earlier than I predicted), and even though no one seems to be especially surprised by the separation, still, it's kinda sad. I mean, I guess it's sad. Maybe? Who knows. It seems like these two were going to kill each other on Bethenny Ever After, so maybe calling it quits is the right thing to do.
Even though some of the rumors of their breakup are not so kind, Bethenny, true to form, is handling the whole thing with cool professionalism and distance ... which might have been part of the problem to begin with.
First, the rumor -- someone's blaming my beloved Dr. Amador for their split. A source claims that Bethenny's therapist pushed her into filing for an official separation, despite Bethenny's misgivings.
Bethenny was adamantly against formally separating from Jason because she viewed it as giving up on the marriage, and she just isn't ready to do that. It was her therapist that recommended the trial separation to give the couple some breathing room, and experience life without each other on a daily basis.
Well, if you ask me, Dr. Amador knows what he's talking about. I mean, the man had to sit there for years and listen to Bethenny complain about her marriage -- his perspective was probably better than hers.
That said, I'm sure Bethenny doesn't want anyone thinking the split wasn't 100 percent her idea, not only because she hates not being the boss and would loathe giving all that power to an outside party, but because it's cruel to Jason. And for some reason, I don't think she wants to be mean or ugly to her husband, despite their differences.
Other than that rumor, all's been calm on the separation front. Bethenny's thanked her fans on Twitter for their amazing support, saying it feels like their words could get her through anything; and she and Jason sound dedicated to making sure their 2-year-old daughter Bryn stays their number one priority.
I assume their separation will progress into a divorce, so we'll have to wait and see how that turns out -- think Jason will argue for more money than Bethenny wants to give? Think Bethenny will file for sole custody? Think some skeletons in the closet will be paraded out in public? Think Bethenny will ever show her real feelings?
Reality show divorces can be nasty, just ask Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif ... hopefully Bethenny and Jason don't follow their lead.
Do you think Bethenny and Jason will have a nasty divorce?
